As a devoted follower of The Rings of Power, I must say that Lloyd Owen’s portrayal of Elendil has been nothing short of captivating. His journey throughout season 2 has been a rollercoaster ride of emotions, from losing his son Isildur to nearly facing the Valar.

Warning: Spoilers ahead for The Rings of Power season 2 episodes 1 to 6. 

Season 2 of The Rings of Power has proven rather traumatic for Elendil, played by Lloyd Owen.

In the story, Isildur (Maxim Baldry), his son, is believed to have perished; Queen Tar-MĂ­riel’s rule was seized by Chancellor Pharazon, and in episode 6 of season 2, he finds himself on the brink of encountering the Valar.

After witnessing Valandil’s (Alex Tarrant) demise, inflicted by Kemen, the treacherous offspring of Pharazon.

Who is Elendil in The Rings of Power?

Captain Elendil hails from the Island Kingdom of NĂșmenor as its Sea Guard leader. He is the proud parent of Isildur, AnĂĄrion, and EĂ€rien, who in season 2 has been urging her father to swear allegiance to Pharazon.

Elendil is a descendant of Elros, the sibling of Elrond (played by Robert Aramayo), who opted for a human lifespan in NĂșmenor despite being Half-Elven.

In the second season, Elendil was observed battling Pharazon, who seized the throne from Tar-MĂ­riel, in a steadfast loyalty to her cause. He’s prepared to do whatever it takes to uphold her rule.

It was demonstrated in the sixth episode of Season 2, the most recent installment, where Tar-MĂ­riel, herself, petitioned Elendil to submit and swear loyalty to Pharazon, arguing that Numenor would benefit from individuals like him.

Instead of going and facing the Valar after his refusal, Tar-MĂ­riel stood in his place and confronted the creatures. In the end, she was found innocent.

This win is significant, but Elendil has experienced setbacks during this period, such as the demise of Valandil and the disappearance (presumably dead) of his son, Isildur.

Born to Amandil, Lord of AndĂșniĂ«, Elendil hails from a lineage that stayed loyal to the Valar, fluently communicated in Elvish, and nurtured enduring bonds with Elves, forging deep connections.

As a passionate cinephile immersed in J.R.R. Tolkien’s lore, I’ve always admired Lord Amandil, a distinguished naval commander of the mighty NĂșmenĂłrean fleet, who forged an intimate bond with PharazĂŽn – the charismatic chancellor of our enigmatic land, NĂșmenor.

Following their rescue from the Great Divide (Sundering Sea), Elendil becomes a friend and defender to both Galadriel and Halbrand, aiming to safeguard the world against the malevolence of Sauron.

According to Tolkien’s mythos, Elendil and his kin depart NĂșmenor following its destruction, and later ascend as the High King over both Arnor and Gondor.

In the final union of Men and Elves, Elendil valiantly fights as part of this alliance, under the command of High-King Gil-galad, against the malevolent Dark Lord Sauron. Tragically, Elendil falls in battle, but his son, Isildur, takes up his legacy and reigns after him following their triumph over the evil lord.

Aragorn, a main character from The Lord of the Rings trilogy, is descended from the deceased monarch who was his forebear.

In the beginning of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, the character Elendil is introduced, played by actor Peter McKenzie.
