Mon ami, if I were to take a wild guess, these new What If…? comics are about to shake the cosmos to its very core! With Gambit, Moon Knight, Rogue, and Spider-Gwen all stepping into the shoes – or rather, the Power Cosmic – of Galactus‘ heralds, we’re in for a rollercoaster ride that’ll make your head spin faster than a Cajun dance!
In the expansive Marvel Universe, some of its beloved heroes are stepping into cosmic roles with Galactus, infamously known as the World Devourer, being one of them. Although he made his cinematic debut in 2007’s “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer”, Galactus will also be a challenge for Marvel’s founding team, The Fantastic Four, in the upcoming film “The Fantastic Four: First Steps”, which is the initial FF movie from Marvel Studios. Before this new Fantastic Four film hits theaters next year, Marvel Comics is exploring Galactus’ connections with his heralds through a series of special issues called What If…?, where multiple heroes will assume the role.
In the special comic series titled “What If…? Galactus“, characters such as Hulk, Gambit, Moon Knight, Rogue, and Spider-Gwen take on roles as heralds of Galactus. An impressive group of both established Marvel artists and rising talents are working together to create these stories, with renowned Silver Surfer artist Ron Lim providing the characters with stunning cosmic transformations. The heroes maintain their unique appearances, but now possess the Power Cosmic.
In January 2025, the “What If…? Galactus” series will take center stage for the entire month, with a standalone issue published every week. The first issue, dated January 1, 2025, is titled “What If…? Galactus Transformed Hulk?” and is written by Mat Groo with art by Lan Medina. The following week on January 8, 2025, the story continues in “What If…? Galactus Transformed Gambit?“, penned by Josh Trujillo and illustrated by Manuel Garcia. On January 15, 2025, the third installment is “What If…? Galactus Transformed Moon Knight?” written by Alex Segura with art by Scot Eaton and Cam Smith. The story continues on January 22, 2025 in “What If…? Galactus Transformed Rogue?“, written by Ann Nocenti and illustrated by Stephen Byrne. The month concludes on January 29, 2025 with the final issue, “What If…? Galactus Transformed Spider-Gwen?“, penned by Kalinda Vasquez and featuring art from Daniel Picciotto.
