New PlayStation Rumor Leaves Fans Scratching Their Heads: "What Is Going On?"

As a gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I find myself both baffled and amused by Sony’s current approach to PlayStation 5. It seems like we’ve taken a step back in time, with remasters and remakes taking center stage instead of new, groundbreaking titles. Don’t get me wrong; I enjoy a good remaster as much as the next guy, but it feels like we’re spinning our wheels a bit this generation.

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve been left scratching my head lately about Sony’s moves with the PlayStation 5. This year hasn’t exactly been a walk in the park for the PlayStation family. Sure, they’re still managing to shift plenty of PS5 consoles and games like “Helldivers 2” and “Astro Bot” have been hits, but the flop of “Concord” and the hefty price tag on the PS5 Pro have stirred up some serious discontent among fans. Now, there’s a fresh rumor floating around that could add fuel to the fire.

Based on Jordan Middler’s comments, it appears that Sony might be planning a remaster of the game Days Gone for the PS5. While Middler didn’t explicitly state this, he responded to a post about another less exciting PlayStation remaster that is soon to be unveiled. Middler’s response was directed at John Garvin, the director of Days Gone, who previously expressed dissatisfaction over the game’s protagonist Deacon St. John appearing in Astro Bot. Middler hinted that if Garvin wasn’t content with that, then he would be blown away by this rumored remaster.

If he was angry that his character is in Astro Bot, he’s going to lose his mind at this.

It’s not inherently bad that Days Gone is getting remastered, but it’s perplexing because it seems like Sony is prioritizing remasters and remakes over entirely new games during this generation of PlayStation. So far in the PS5’s lifetime, we’ve seen titles such as The Last of Us Part I, The Last of Us Part II Remastered, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, and Until Dawn remade or reworked. Rumors suggest that Sony is also planning to remaster Horizon Zero Dawn, in addition to Days Gone.

User @mrpyo1 recently inquired about Sony’s situation regarding remasters, prompted by the buzz around the Days Gone rumor. Many others have also shown interest in this topic since Days Gone already supports 4K and 60fps on the PlayStation 5.

As someone who has been following the gaming industry for many years now, I have to admit that I find the recent PlayStation strategy rather perplexing. Selling the PS5 Pro this November for $700 seems like a bold move when the main “killer apps” they’re touting are simply remasters/remakes of last-generation games.
