The Penguin: The Falcone Family Tree, Explained

Carmine Falcone

For years, the Falcone Crime Syndicate found itself locked in a bitter struggle against the formidable and entrenched Maroni crime family, led by my arch-nemesis, Sal Maroni. Yet, I managed to turn the tide: I orchestrated a clever scheme where Oz, a trusted confidant, infiltrated Maroni’s inner circle and gathered intelligence on his drug trafficking operations – information that I strategically leaked to corrupt authorities and law enforcement officers, who skillfully set up a sting operation that dismantled the Maroni syndicate and sent Sal to prison for life.

Yet, Carmine’s double role as a mob kingpin and covert federal informant paved the way for his downfall: it is believed that his conflict with Maroni might have led to the deaths of Thomas and Martha Wayne, spawning Batman; his romantic entanglement with a waitress (later murdered by him) gave rise to Catwoman, and his control over the Gotham Renewal fund fostered The Riddler, the notorious serial killer who eventually took down Falcone.

Following Carmine’s demise, Oz Cobb embarks on a sinister journey to establish “Penguin” as Gotham’s new dominant figure. However, he faces numerous formidable adversaries along the way.

Sofia Falcone

Sofia Falcone (played by Cristin Milioti) has been away from her criminal family enterprise for quite some time, following her confinement at Arkham State Hospital. Reports suggest that she earned the chilling moniker “The Hangman” due to a series of murders she committed, primarily targeting women through strangulation. With the passing of her father, Sofia is now back, intent on reorganizing her family’s business affairs.

Oswald ‘Oz’ Cobb

Oswald Cobb (Colin Farrell) is known on the streets as “The Penguin” due to his malformed leg and the wobbling limp it causes. Oz was one of Carmine Falcone’s top capos (lieutenants) in the syndicate; he started off as a driver and errand boy, and eventually worked and killed his way to being head of drug distribution for the Falcone mob. Oz also courted many key relationships with powerful figures from the underworld and political world, while owning the Iceberg Lounge, one of the Falcones’ most successful nightclub business fronts.

As a cunning gamer, I embark on the thrilling tale of Oz, who schemes to outsmart rival gangsters in the city of Gotham. I manipulate alliances, weave webs of deceit, swipe treasures, and employ underhand tactics to seize the coveted position as the new crime lord of this metropolis.

Milos Grapa

Milos Grapa, portrayed by James Madio, functioned as Carmine Falcone’s personal guard and was responsible for enforcing laws within the Falcone Crime Organization. If he were to come call on you, it’s highly probable that he would be the last individual you encounter.

Alberto Falcone

Alberto Falcone, played by Michael Zegen, is the son of Carmine and the brother of Sofia. With his father recently passed away, he stands poised to assume control over the Falcone Crime Syndicate. However, he’s got quite a few challenges on his plate as well…

Johnny Viti

As a trusted right-hand man for years under Carmine Falcone in the Falcone Crime Syndicate, I’ve been the second-in-command, wielding significant power within this criminal empire. Although I don’t share the Falcone bloodline, when it comes to taking over as the new boss of Gotham, they know there’s no one more fitting for the job than me, Johnny Viti.

Luca Falcone

Through no specific familial tie explicitly stated, Scott Cohen’s character, Luca Falcone, shares kinship with the late Carmine Falcone. Upon Carmine’s demise, Luca assumes a role in preserving the family enterprise.

Selina Kyle

In the film ‘The Batman’, we meet Selina Kyle, portrayed by Zoë Kravitz, who is revealed to be the daughter of mob boss Carmine Falcone, born from a relationship with one of his waitresses at the Iceberg Lounge/44 Below club. When she was seven years old, Carmine murdered her mother; throughout ‘The Batman’, we see Selina plotting to avenge this act by eliminating her father. However, the Batman intervenes and prevents her from committing the murder. After the Riddler ends up killing Carmine, Selina decides to leave Gotham City.

In summary, Selina belongs to the Falcone lineage, but it’s uncertain if other family members are aware of this fact.
