Frank Grillo Says Marvel "Almost Fired" Him Multiple Times for Leaking News

As a seasoned gamer and avid Marvel fan, I’ve witnessed Frank Grillo‘s electrifying portrayal of Crossbones in the MCU. His charisma and screen presence made him an instant favorite among fans, especially after his gripping performance in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. However, it seems that his tenure with Marvel Studios could have been cut short due to his infamous habit of oversharing – a trait that almost cost him his job on more than one occasion!

Actor Frank Grillo had an impressive stint in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, portraying the antagonist Brock Rumlow (Crossbones) in three of their movies. Fans adored him particularly following Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and he remains a top choice among ex-MCU actors for a comeback. Interestingly, his association with Marvel Studios might have been shorter if not for a near dismissal due to an unintentional leak of confidential information.

In a recent conversation with Grillo, ComicBook delved into the topic of his forthcoming projects, particularly the film “Long Gone Heroes.” When discussing his future ventures in the evolving DC Universe, Grillo mentioned that he’ll provide the voice for Rick Flag Sr. in the animated series “Creature Commandos,” and later reprise the role as a live-action character in “Peacemaker” Season 2 and “Superman.” However, he preferred to keep details about his character under wraps due to concerns over revealing too much information. He shared an amusing anecdote about how excessive sharing nearly led to complications in his career at Marvel on multiple occasions.

Grillo explained, “Regrettably, there isn’t much I can discuss without causing issues. So, in such situations, I find myself having to invoke my right to remain silent, which is essentially ‘I take the fifth.'” He added, “I’m really poor at this sort of thing. Marvel came close to letting me go about 36 times due to my honesty. I value truthfulness above all else. Unfortunately, I might overdo it sometimes. But I’ve been cautioned.

Frank Grillo won’t spill any secrets from the DC universe, but it looks like he’s got a significant part in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s upcoming franchise. Although he might consider reprising his role as Crossbones in the MCU at some point, he spoke only positively about his experiences with both Marvel and DC when asked if he’d return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Reflecting on my life journey so far, I’ve come to realize that there are many experiences I had thought were genuine and accurate. If given a chance, I would gladly revisit those moments. Currently, I’m content with what I’m accomplishing at DC, working with James Gunn and Peter Safran, who have provided me with an extraordinary opportunity. That said, everything I’ve done thus far brings me joy, and if the right opportunity arises that excites me, I would be ready to embrace it.

You can catch Frank Grillo in Long Gone Heroes, playing in theaters this weekend.
