Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii Is the Next "Over-the-Top" Yakuza Game

As a long-time fan of the Yakuza series, I must say that this latest announcement from RGG Studio has me absolutely thrilled! The idea of Goro Majima, one of my favorite characters, embarking on a pirate adventure in Hawaii is nothing short of ingenious. It’s like they’ve taken everything we love about the series and given it a delightful twist that feels both true to the franchise and wonderfully over-the-top.

This week, RGG Studio unveiled their upcoming title, titled “Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii“. Unlike previous games featuring Ichiban or Kiryu, this installment allows players to control Goro Majima, a well-known character from the earlier “Yakuza” series, which is now known as the “Like a Dragon” franchise. Instead of urban Japan, the action will unfold on pirate ships and Hawaiian islands in this pirate-themed adventure when it launches.

As a dedicated fan of the Yakuza series (a.k.a Like a Dragon), I was on tenterhooks today knowing that RGG Studio was set to unveil their next project during their summit. However, being a regular follower of this studio, I knew better than to guess what surprise they had in store for us.

For fans of the latest Yakuza-like games, you’ll recognize two main fighting systems used in these titles. The first is action-packed real-time combat with moves, fighting styles, and rapid button presses, while the second employs turn-based strategies utilizing unique abilities and character classes. If you’re a fan of the old school approach, get ready for Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii , as it appears to focus on real-time combat with Goro Majima wielding two distinct styles – his traditional “Mad Dog” style and an exciting new “Sea Dog” style that allows him to fight like a pirate.

In a turn of events, the infamous former yakuza, Goro Majima, finds himself stranded on a secluded Pacific island after a tragic shipwreck. Stricken with amnesia, he’s lost not only his past but also his identity. In search of answers about his forgotten memories, he embarks on a journey, accompanied by a young boy named Noah who rescued him. As their adventure unfolds, they soon find themselves entangled in a struggle between ruthless criminals, pirates, and other rogues, all battling for control over a fabled treasure.

Regarding preorder rewards and additional content, the early purchase incentive is quite fitting for the new Like a Dragon game. Pre-ordering this game gives you the Ichiban Kasuga pirate crew set, complete with a special outfit that allows Ichiban to join your pirate crew. Accompanying him is Nancy, his crawfish companion introduced in Yakuza: Like a Dragon. The more deluxe Digital Deluxe Edition includes items like a pirate crew pack and customizations for outfits and ships. However, it also hints that the popular feature from the Like a Dragon series, karaoke, will return in Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawai’i because purchasing this version of the game grants you an extra karaoke song and a CD collection set.

On February 28th, the game titled “Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii” will become available to play on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and personal computer platforms.
