As a seasoned Battlefield veteran with over a decade of combat under my digital belt, I must say, the latest revelations about the next installment have me buzzing like a humvee’s engine on overdrive! The modern-day setting, the return of 64-player maps, and the classic classes are just the tip of the iceberg.
Information about the forthcoming Battlefield game is starting to surface, as Electronic Arts (EA) has confirmed that the next installment will offer a contemporary setting, reintroduce 64-player maps, and bring back classic Battlefield classes. According to a recent report by Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson, some potential new details have surfaced as well.
As an ardent enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that Henderson hints at the upcoming “Battlefield” being set in the late 2020s. The narrative revolves around a private military group squaring off against NATO. The campaign promises to unfold across diverse locations, with Gibraltar being one of them, as suggested by the unveiled concept art (feel free to check it out above). Interestingly, the US is rumored to be the backdrop for Ripple Effect Studios’ anticipated free-to-play battle royale experience. Remarkably, this battle royale experience is said to be connected to the main game, much like “Call of Duty: Warzone.
Regarding the multiplayer aspect of the upcoming Battlefield title, the report suggests that at launch, it will offer 45 distinct weapon options, and DICE is aiming for approximately 10 multiplayer maps. However, whether Levelotion from Battlefield 4 will return remains uncertain. The game is expected to undergo a substantial upgrade in its destruction mechanics.
In the process of this major update, it’s rumored that the game will incorporate a destructibility system based on weapon caliber, much like Ubisoft’s Rainbow Six Siege. This implies that various caliber weapons will lead to varying degrees of environmental damage. Additionally, there are whispers of new movement mechanics being implemented, such as the ability to carry and move downed players.
The development team has been carrying out extensive community polls over the past year to help them determine if they should title the game “Battlefield 6” or just “Battlefield”.
According to previous reports, the upcoming “Battlefield” game is planned for a release in October 2025. Recently, EA’s Vince Zampella expressed a desire for the new shooter to be available on Nintendo’s as-yet-unrevealed next-generation console. You can read more about that here.
