An Official Haikyu x Godzilla Crossover Has Been Unleashed

As a die-hard fan who has spent countless hours immersed in both the world of Haikyu and Godzilla, I can confidently say that 2024 has been an unparalleled year for these iconic franchises. The release of Haikyu: The Dumpster Battle and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire have left fans in awe, with the former solidifying its place as one of the top sports anime and the latter shattering box office records.

2024 was a remarkable year for both Haikyu and Godzilla. Haikyu made its mark with the first installment of its final films titled “Haikyu: The Dumpster Battle,” solidifying its status as one of the most prominent sports anime. Meanwhile, Godzilla also experienced an impressive surge, breaking box office records with Legendary’s “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” and winning an Academy Award for Toho’s “Godzilla Minus One.” In a surprising turn of events, these distinct franchises are now joining forces for an official collaboration.

As a die-hard fan, I can’t contain my excitement for the Haikyu/Godzilla crossover! It isn’t just about the colossal kaijus we’ve grown to adore, but also introduces Chibi Godzilla, the diminutive version of our beloved King of Monsters. Unlike his full-sized counterpart, Chibi Godzilla is more about laughter than destruction, bringing a fresh dose of humor to the world of these titans. The latest anime series, “Chibi Godzilla Raids Again,” has just wrapped up with thirty-six episodes filled with heartwarming adventures featuring these pint-sized beasts. Although we might not see an official anime series where Godzilla squares off against Shoyo Hinata on the volleyball court, this crossover promises some unforgettable surprises for us anime enthusiasts!

Haikyu Meets Godzilla

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that Toho has announced an exciting crossover between the adorable “Chibi Godzilla Strikes Back” and the beloved anime “Haikyu!!”. Today, they unveiled a collaboration visual where Chibi Godzilla and the main character of “Haikyu!!”, Hinata Shoyo, are pictured in their Karasuno High School uniforms, ready to serve an ace. In the future, they’ll be releasing more collaborative visuals featuring various chibi monsters alongside characters from “Haikyu!!” I can hardly wait! Keep an eye out, as products using these character collaboration illustrations will soon be available at the Godzilla Store.

Haikyu’s Final Film

The movie “Haikyu: The Dumpster Battle” became one of Japan’s largest anime films ever, demonstrating that sports anime have grown significantly within the medium. Currently, there’s been no official announcement regarding the final film that will wrap up Shoyo’s story, but considering its predecessor’s success, it’s expected to be a hit. It seems likely that Production I.G. will revisit the series to complete the sports anime.

Interestingly enough, Production I.G. is not just familiar with volleyball players, but also giants monsters or ‘kaiju’. This year alone, they have released the anime adaptation of the sensational shonen series Kaiju No. 8, which has gained massive popularity and was one of the most anticipated anime releases in 2024.

Godzilla’s Monstrous Future

After the triumph of Legendary’s MonsterVerse, it’s been announced that Godzilla will make a reappearance in various forms in the coming days. A third installment in the Godzilla vs Kong shared universe has been confirmed, a second season for Monarch: Chronicles of Titans is being developed, and Apple TV+ is also creating a spin-off series based on the MonsterVerse.

Regrettably, there’s been no news about Godzilla Minus One getting a sequel, even though it won an Academy Award. Director Takashi Yamazaki has expressed interest in revisiting his monster universe before, suggesting that he’s ready to bring back the king of monsters in a new story.
