As a long-time fan who has been following the MCU since its inception, I can’t help but be excited about the potential return of Eli Bradley, also known as Patriot, in the upcoming Captain America movie, “Brave New World.” The hints dropped by Marvel Comics have me on the edge of my seat!
Next year brings us “Captain America: Brave New World,” and it seems Marvel Comics may be foreshadowing an unexpected MCU comeback with their latest title. This week, fans were treated to a limited series titled “Sam Wilson: Captain America” written by Greg Pak, Evan Narcisse, and Eder Messias. Notably, our hero is battling Red Hulk, much like in the upcoming film. However, there’s an intriguing extra detail that MCU fans should pay attention to. Taurin Clarke’s captivating cover for “Sam Wilson: Captain America” also includes Eli Bradley’s Patriot as part of the narrative. While Isaiah Bradley has been confirmed for the upcoming Marvel film, there’s no news about his grandson reappearing in the franchise. Could this be a hint at Eli’s role in the movie?
In the series “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” viewers were introduced to Isaiah Bradley, who was originally Captain America. His grandson Eli, portrayed by Elijah Richardson, was also presented. The U.S. government conducted experiments on Bradley in an attempt to duplicate the Super Soldier serum that granted Steve Rogers his abilities. In the “Captain America: Brave New World” trailer, it’s evident that Isaiah still possesses the physical prowess resulting from those experiments, as he leaps through windows. However, it remains unclear if Eli has inherited any of these powers. Could it be possible that Eli is on the verge of becoming another potential superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
In Marvel Comics lore, there’s a persistent narrative where Eli assumes the role of the hero known as Patriot. He fights alongside the Young Avengers, often filling in for Captain America during their early days as a team, guided by Steve Rogers’ training. The MCU might simplify his origin story because it becomes intricate due to Patriot’s powers stemming from a superhuman drug initially and then being replaced with cleaner abilities through Isaiah Bradley’s blood transfusion. Given the numerous young heroes currently active in the MCU, it wouldn’t be surprising if Eli were to join the Young Avengers that Kamala Khan is currently recruiting. We’ll just have to keep watching.
Young Avengers Slowly Assembling During All Of These Movies
Since the onset of Phase 4, Marvel enthusiasts have been eagerly awaiting the formation of the Young Avengers. Characters such as Scarlet Witch’s children Billy and Tommy were introduced in ‘WandaVision’. Following this, a series of young heroes began to emerge. The anticipation reached its peak in ‘The Marvels’ when Kamala Khan obtained a SWORD information tablet. With this access, she was able to locate any young superhero in their database. In the post-credits scene of the movie, she approached Hawkeye Kate Bishop. Iman Vellani, who plays Ms. Marvel, recently discussed her excitement about the Young Avengers coming together on ComicBook’s ‘Phase Zero’ podcast, just like many fans are.
I’m eager to watch them engage with each other. It seems that the writers have intentionally left several of the younger characters’ narratives unresolved, and it would be fascinating to observe fans pairing up characters, such as Kamala interacting with America. However, I’d also love to see Kamala with Patriot, or even just various random characters. In essence, I believe there are numerous possibilities for their interactions.
Initially, it was somewhat surprising to notice the actress from Ms. Marvel bringing up Patriot, as he hasn’t been highlighted much by Marvel Studios since “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.” However, considering Vellani’s statement, she might have simply been reciting the roster of the Young Avengers that fans are familiar with from the comics. Given that Cassie Lang, America Chavez, Hawkeye, Ms. Marvel, and others have already been hinted at in Marvel Studios’ upcoming projects, there is space for a few more members. Many MCU enthusiasts speculate that another key member could be introduced soon through “Agatha All Along.” Regardless, with Marvel showing more cross-comics integration than ever before, this new Captain America comic book might be a subtle hint about something else entirely.
