Key & Peele Star Confirms Duo "Don't See Each Other That Often Anymore"

As a gamer who has grown up watching Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele‘s comedic genius unfold on screen, their growing rarity in each other’s lives feels like a personal tragedy. Their partnership was akin to watching two masters duel with words, creating moments of pure alchemy that left me in stitches.

Keegan-Michael Key, famous for his role in Transformers One, confesses that he seldom gets to spend time with his longtime comedy partner Jordan Peele these days, a situation he describes as unfortunate. However, it’s not because they have fallen out; instead, they have followed separate paths professionally. While Key is garnering recognition for his serious acting roles, Peele has made a name for himself behind the scenes, directing and producing several successful genre films since his critically-acclaimed directorial debut with Get Out in 2017. These changes weren’t spontaneous; they’ve both been working diligently in various sectors of the industry, which has unfortunately left them with less time to spend together.

As People was informed by Key, it’s been quite some time since we cross paths, a situation that personally fills me with sadness.

During the interview, Key expressed that he and his partner, who initially crossed paths on MAD TV and later starred in their own comedy series Key & Peele, possessed a unique creative bond. He further explained that when they were performing in front of the camera, it was as if magic happened; it simply felt effortless, leaving them wondering, “Why is this so successful?

Since their show “Key & Peele” concluded and they gained widespread recognition, they have joined forces in films such as “Keanu”, “Fargo”, “Toy Story 4”, and the upcoming “Wendell & Wild”. They’ve also made several joint appearances in various projects, one of which stands out in “Weird Al” Yankovic’s music video for “White and Nerdy.

Under the direction of Josh Cooley (of Toy Story 4 fame), and with a screenplay penned by Andrew Barrer (Ant-Man and the Wasp), Gabriel Ferrari (No Exit), and Steve Desmond (Knock at the Cabin), the animated movie, Transformers One, is set to hit Paramount Animation screens on September 20th. This film brings back our beloved cast, including Chris Hemsworth as Orion Pax / Optimus Prime, Brian Tyree Henry voicing D-16 / Megatron, Scarlett Johansson as Elita-1, Keegan-Michael Key as B-127 / Bumblebee, Jon Hamm as Sentinel Prime, Laurence Fishburne as Autobot Alpha Trion, and Steve Buscemi lending his voice to Starscream.

In the role of producer for Di Bonaventura Pictures, Lorenzo di Bonaventura has been announced. Additionally, in the same capacity, action-live film director Michael Bay joins with Tom DeSanto, Don Murphy, Mark Vahradian, and Aaron Dem.

According to its official summary, “Transformers One” tells the unexplored backstory of Optimus Prime and Megatron, who were once close friends like brothers and altered Cybertron’s destiny irrevocably. This marks the debut of a fully computer-generated Transformers movie. The voice cast for this film is impressive, featuring stars such as Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry, Scarlett Johansson, Keegan-Michael Key, Steve Buscemi, with Laurence Fishburne and Jon Hamm included as well.
