Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ Seasons Won’t Have a “Negative Impact” on Gameplay, Says Ubisoft

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I must admit that I was quite intrigued by the announcement of Assassin’s Creed Shadows. After a hiatus, it’s refreshing to see the franchise back with new adventures. However, as someone who has played through the likes of Metal Gear Solid and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, I was hoping for more immersive seasonal elements in this latest installment.

Following a short deviation with “Assassin’s Creed Mirage”, “Assassin’s Creed Shadows” represents the first major installment of the series since 2020. It brings back familiar elements such as two main characters (previously seen in “Syndicate”), and introduces novel aspects, like seasonal changes.

Through their journey, players will encounter assignments set in Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. Certain missions might necessitate adjustments in strategy – for instance, Naoe may sneak through a pond submerged in Summer but cannot do so when it’s frozen over during Winter. Regrettably, it appears that the impact of seasons on gameplay will be limited to this degree.

In an interview with PLAY magazine, as reported by GamesRadar, art director Thierry Dansereau shared that the team aimed to avoid creating something that might be seen as overly negative or potentially harmful to the gaming experience.

As the seasons shift, you’ll notice various visual changes, such as characters seeking shelter during rainstorms. Keep in mind that unlike in games like Metal Gear Solid and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom, you won’t be leaving footprints in the snow or slipping on wet walls during rain.

The game “Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla” is set to release on November 11th for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and personal computers. You can watch the newest trailer displaying its stunning environment by following this link.
