Coronation Street’s Bethany suffers perforated bowel in cosmetic surgery story

As someone who has gone through my fair share of ups and downs, I can only imagine the turmoil that Daniel Osbourne must be going through right now. Seeing his beloved Bethany, Lucy Fallon’s character on Coronation Street, lying in an intensive care unit after a botched cosmetic procedure must be heart-wrenching.

Tonight on Coronation Street (September 23, 2024), actress Lucy Fallon’s character Bethany Platt experienced troubling side effects from a beauty treatment.

A week ago, Bethany jet-setted off to Turkey for some PR duties at a cosmetics firm owned by Sue Devaney’s acquaintance, Debbie Webster.

In the time when Bethany was away, Carla Connor (played by Alison King) shared with Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien), Bethany’s mother, that her nephew Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) had ended things with Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan). She also hinted to Sarah that there might be a chance for Daisy and Bethany’s boyfriend Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) to rekindle their relationship.

At that same instance, Sarah thought differently about Daniel, yet it was actually Daniel offering comfort to Daisy at The Rovers. As Daisy eventually admitted her lingering affection for Daniel, he disclosed his own remaining emotions, but in the end, he made clear that he remained loyal to Bethany.

Daniel ignored some calls from Turkey, assuming Bethany was simply calling to rave about her hotel.

Daniel attempted to make the phone call he’d been meaning to return, but couldn’t reach the person. Instead, he received a call from a Turkish hospital, informing him that Bethany was being treated in the intensive care unit.

Following the sharing of the news with Sarah, Daniel arranged the flights for them both to reach Bethany – however, Sarah’s passport was about to expire, forcing Daniel to travel alone while she handled the renewal process.

Sarah found solace – in a special manner – from grandmother Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls) and brother David Platt (Jack P Shepherd). Her fear for her daughter remained, as she was yet to learn about the fate of Bethany.

In “The Rovers,” Sarah shared the details of the situation with her superior, Carla, only for Daisy to eavesdrop and accidentally reveal that Sarah was with Daniel when the hospital initially made contact. This revelation infuriated Sarah.

Over in Turkey, Daniel called Sarah, and they were both struck with shock when a physician detailed that Bethany was battling sepsis and had a punctured stomach lining, following her liposuction procedure.

On Coronation Street, it was revealed that Bethany will undergo surgery leading to a long-term ostomy (stoma) placement. The upcoming episodes will feature this process unfolding throughout the week.

Anyone affected by Bethany’s story can find support at The UK Sepsis Trust.
