Trap: M. Night Shyamalan's New Movie Finally Has a Streaming Premiere Date

As a seasoned gamer who’s been through the cinematic rollercoaster of M. Night Shyamalan’s filmography, I can confidently say that his latest offering, “Trap”, is a fresh take on the Shyamalan formula. The twist here isn’t hidden like a well-guarded secret, but instead, it’s laid out in the open for us to grapple with – much like trying to escape from a real-life trap!

As a dedicated gamer, I’m pumped to share that the latest masterpiece from the legendary filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan, titled “Trap,” is arriving on my streaming service sooner than expected! This edge-of-your-seat thriller, starring Josh Hartnett as both a loving father and a ruthless fugitive trying to break free from a deadly concert, made waves in theaters back in August, earning over $80 million at the box office. Since I missed catching it on the big screen, I can’t wait to dive into “Trap” when it premieres on Max next month!

On Monday, Max unveiled the entire slate of movies and TV series joining their streaming platform in October. Beginning October 25th, the Warner Bros. Discovery service will make available the film “Trap“, which has only been on the big screen for a couple of months before making its way to streaming.

In Shyamalan’s career, Warner Bros. was the studio that released his initial feature film following a prolonged collaboration with Universal. Since Warner Bros. distributed the movie (with Shyamalan financing a significant portion of it himself), it’s understandable that Max will have priority access to streaming the film first.

Trap Is a Different Kind of Shyamalan Movie

Shyamalan’s newest film deviates from his typical style by unveiling the central twist at the beginning of the story, rather than keeping viewers guessing until the end. Although there are numerous unexpected events along the way, the identity of the culprit was disclosed in the initial trailer, leaving you to watch the entire movie with this knowledge.

As I sit down with ComicBook before the movie hits theaters this summer, M. Night Shyamalan shares insights on the major transformation in Trap’s storyline, here’s my take:

Shyamalan stated that the intriguing and twisted aspect of the movie “Trap” lies in its main character, as the narrative unfolds from his point of view. What attracted him to this project was this unique perspective, something not commonly explored in stories about serial killers. He explained, “Instead of just telling a million stories about them, we’re saying ‘you are him,’ and this is what it feels like for you on the day when you might get caught [which offers a fresh take].

What’s Next for M. Night Shyamalan?

Although M. Night Shyamalan hasn’t disclosed the title of his upcoming movie yet, he has already dived into the scriptwriting phase. Recently, he shared a photo of his fresh work journal for the new film, hinting to enthusiasts that he’s back at work again.

In his unique tradition for every movie he creates, Shyamalan selects a notebook that resonates with him, jotting down ideas and notes for the upcoming film within it. Once the notebook is filled with concepts, he moves on to creating an outline followed by a script. And here we have the notebook for his seventeenth movie! The vibrant red cover seemed just perfect! With [Trap] surpassing 80 million in box office sales, Shyamalan expresses immense gratitude and is inspired to embark on his next project, fueled by all the support he’s received throughout the years.
