Aprons at the ready – because The Great British Bake Off is back tonight!
Tonight at 9pm on Channel 4, the well-known baking competition makes its comeback. A fresh batch of bakers will step inside the iconic white marquee for their debut appearance.
In the upcoming film of 2024, I, the movie critic, have the pleasure of introducing one of its talented cast members – a 29-year-old named Mike. This remarkable individual takes immense pride in cultivating his very own seasonal fruits, which he then meticulously incorporates into his scrumptious baked creations.
But who is Mike, and what has he said about appearing on the show? Read on to find out more.

Mike, aged 29, hails from the countryside region of Wiltshire, and has been recognized as a finalist in the category of ‘Young Farmer of the Year’ at the 2024 National Arable and Grassland Awards.
As a passionate moviegoer, I’m proud to be Mike, a fourth-generation farmer carrying on my family’s rich agricultural legacy. Together with my parents and sister, we work tirelessly on our farmlands. Beyond being a farmer, I am an ardent supporter of the LGBTQ+ community within our farming industry. In 2022, I had the honor to serve as an ambassador for the National Farmers Union, advocating for inclusivity and equality in agriculture.
To make an even stronger impression, Mike is cultivating every flower for his forthcoming wedding! What’s particularly special about this is that he adores incorporating seasonal fruits and edible blossoms harvested from his garden and farm. In fact, he’s gone a step further by creating his own wedding cake!
Mike takes pleasure in crafting substantial, comforting baked goods utilizing premium local produce ideal for feeding crowds during social events. His approach to baking is warm and hearty.
Why did Mike sign up for The Great British Bake Off 2024?
For quite some time, numerous acquaintances of Mike’s have suggested that he audition for the show. Discussions with his partner Matt about this extraordinary chance were recurring topics, but it remained a mere fantasy – until today!
Matt failed to answer the initial phone call inviting him for the series, and upon returning the call, he initially believed that his opportunity had already passed.
He shared: “After reaching one of the producers, she was incredibly nice and flattering towards me, but I sensed a ‘but’ was imminent, feeling she was trying to soften the blow because I hadn’t succeeded. So when she mentioned they wanted me as one of the bakers, I was left speechless and tears welled up.
Immediately after calling Matt, I expressed my intention to make our wedding cake. This, in turn, signified that I was preparing to enter the competition tent, leading me to tear up again! (Since Matt felt that baking the cake on top of handling all other wedding arrangements would be excessively stressful, we agreed that I would only bake it if I managed to get into the Bake Off tent!)
The Great British Bake starts on Tuesday 24th September at 9pm on Channel 4.
