As a seasoned film enthusiast who’s seen more baking shows than I care to admit, I can confidently say that The Great British Bake Off is one of my all-time favorites. And with its 15th season premiering tonight, it’s safe to say that autumn has officially arrived!
As the chillier seasons approach, there’s no better feeling than snuggling up with an enjoyable episode of The Great British Bake Off, and lucky for fans, today’s the day it returns!
As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that the beloved Bake Off starts anew tonight (24th September)! This marks its 15th season, and 12 fresh bakers are eager to dazzle judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith with their culinary creations. Can’t wait to see what they’ve got in store for us!
Among those bakers is Illiyin, whose strength in baking is flavour, but finds her weakness to be finesse! “I always rush and so often don’t have time to neatly finish in the way I want to,” she explained.

Born and raised in Norfolk, among seven other siblings, Illiyin is currently a 31-year-old midwife residing in London. Due to the bustling nature of their household, she often assisted her mother with baking tasks and eventually emerged as the family’s preferred choice for birthday cakes.
In a multicultural neighborhood, Illyin finds inspiration from the diverse array of food ingredients and tastes, ranging from Middle Eastern to Caribbean delicacies.
Freelancing midwife and published author, Illiyin assists women during their journey into parenthood.
What was Illiyin’s reaction to being cast in The Great British Bake Off 2024?
Throughout the entire auditioning process, Illiyin “never foresaw” making it into this year’s Bake Off cast, so when she got the call, she couldn’t believe it.
She expressed that she was taken aback for several days,” she stated. “It was while we were in her kitchen that the phone rang, and her sisters happened to be there as well. We had been anticipating that very call!
As I reminisced about my time within the tent, a poignant moment from the premiere instantly came to mind: setting my mother’s photograph atop my workbench.
“She would’ve been so excited I know it,” she said. “It felt like she was there with me!”
The Great British Bake starts on Tuesday 24th September at 9pm on Channel 4.
