Call the Midwife star was always planning to return to show amid exit rumours

As a devoted fan of Call the Midwife who has been following the series since its inception, I was on tenterhooks after the season 13 finale left Trixie Aylward’s fate uncertain. The thought of life without our beloved midwife seemed unbearable! So, hearing that Helen George, the actress behind Trixie, has confirmed her return for season 14 is nothing short of a Christmas miracle!

Rumors about Helen George leaving Call the Midwife have been debunked following the season 13 finale, which left uncertainty about her character’s presence in Poplar for season 14.

The actress portraying Nurse Trixie Aylward is among the initial cast members in the medical series, and by the conclusion of Season 13, her character’s plotline became somewhat complex or unpredictable.

In the finale, Trixie’s husband Matthew moved to America after he struggled with his finances in a bid to revive his business prospects and support his family – but did not consult Trixie.

In the given episode, Trixie chose to act upon her feelings and side with Matthew, leading some to ponder whether this marked the final appearance of our beloved midwife on screen.

For over two months now, there’s been a lot of speculation about whether George will stay in the series. However, when asked by virginradio.co.uk, she definitely squashed those rumors.

“I was always planning to come back,” she put it simply.

Regarding the upcoming season 14, George didn’t reveal much but hinted that it will be more grandiose than before.

As a film enthusiast, I remarked, “Indeed, this seems to be a significant comeback for Trixie. After all, she’s returning without her husband, which certainly adds an intriguing turn of events.

In a playful manner, actress Rebecca Gethings hinted about Sister Veronica: “There will be both tears and joy, it’s as heartwarming as ever. It centers around community, but remember, even at Christmas they face challenges – it’s not all about hugs and Horlicks.

Well, we certainly can’t wait!

I’m thrilled to announce that I’ll be able to revisit Call the Midwife this coming Christmas on BBC One! If you haven’t had a chance to catch up with the previous seasons, they’re all ready and waiting for you to stream on BBC iPlayer. Enjoy!
