As a cinephile with a penchant for detective dramas and a soft spot for Joséphine Jobert, I must admit that her departure from Death in Paradise left me with a pang of nostalgia. However, as someone who has watched the evolution of characters in various series, I am always eager for new chapters to unfold.
It seems that Josephine Jobert’s journey on Death in Paradise has concluded, as she informs her followers that it’s now time for a change, and they can look forward to watching her in a new series coming up next year.
As I delve into the intriguing world of my latest detective drama during an engaging Instagram Q&A session, I share insights with enthusiastic fans about this captivating project I’m currently bringing to life on set.
In response to a follower asking if she missed filming the series, Jobert stated: “To be honest, I didn’t miss it that much. I truly enjoyed myself during the process, and managed to make the most out of it. I have some wonderful memories from those times and also had the opportunity to meet some fantastic individuals.
“But [it’s] time to move on.”
Recently, viewers of Death in Paradise noticed that the actress who played Florence said goodbye to the BBC show at the conclusion of season 13. In this finale episode, Florence and DI Neville Parker (played by Ralf Little) both left Saint Marie, signifying the end of her tenure on the series.
Jobert is starring in a new detective drama, Saint-Pierre, which is slated to premiere in 2025.
As a movie enthusiast, I’d put it this way: “In Canada, my journey as an inspector with the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary takes a surprising turn when I delve too deeply into a local politician’s shady dealings. Consequently, I find myself banished to work in the picturesque French territory of Saint-Pierre et Miquelon, tucked away in the Atlantic Ocean, far from the familiar coastline of Newfoundland.
The arrival of Fitz disturbs the routine of Deputy Chief Geneviève ‘Arch’ Archambault, a woman from Paris who has moved to Saint-Pierre for personal motives that are shrouded in mystery.
Saint-Pierre features the talented French actress Joséphine Jobert playing Arch, alongside Canadian actor Allan Hawco as Fitz, with British actor James Purefoy completing this impressive ensemble.
By an uncanny twist of events, these two experienced police officers, each distinct in their law enforcement methods and abilities, find themselves paired up to tackle unusual and thrilling cases.
Despite the islands appearing as a charming vacation spot, beneath their picturesque exterior lies a hidden underbelly of severe criminal activities that often find their way onto its pristine beaches.
Initially distrustful and at odds with one another, Arch and Fitz eventually realize their partnership proves invaluable… effectively forming an unstoppable crime-solving duo.
Jobert replied, “I’d describe it as more serious, with a wink,” when asked if the show resembled the light-heartedness of Death in Paradise.
Initially, Jobert was adamant about not reprising her role on Death in Paradise or its related shows, as Florence’s exit signified the conclusion of her character’s journey. However, she’s had a change of heart.
As a devoted film fanatic looking back on earlier conversations this year (specifically with Daily Express), you may recall that Jobert was queried about a potential spin-off role. Her response was clear and definitive: “I believe I can confidently assert no. I’ve bid farewell and returned numerous times, and I feel I’ve more than served my time on that series.
At last, I’ve had the chance to bid farewell to Florence. Though I’m deeply thankful for the experiences and beautiful moments this project has given me, I’m equally excited to embark on fresh ventures and contribute to new projects.
She added: “But I completely understand why the question is asked. In fact, I am very touched that the public wants to continue following Florence.”
However, a couple of months later, she was asked the question again and responded: “Yes, why not?”
It remains uncertain whether Florence and Humphrey will return to their detective duties, but it would undoubtedly be a thrill for fans to witness such an event!
Death in Paradise is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
