Dead by Daylight Developer Acquires Red Hook Studios of Darkest Dungeon Fame

As a dedicated gamer who’s spent countless hours battling my sanity against the relentless horrors of the Darkest Dungeon, this news has me positively gleeful! The merger between Behaviour Interactive and Red Hook Studios feels like a match made in gaming heaven. These two powerhouses of horror have collectively sold over seven million copies, and with Behaviour’s ambition to make their name synonymous with all things frightening, the future is looking decidedly darker and more terrifying.

Following the recent cancellation of “Project T,” a spin-off from “Dead by Daylight,” Behaviour Interactive has now revealed their purchase of Red Hook Studios. Known predominantly for their “Darkest Dungeon” series, these two games have collectively sold more than seven million copies.

Remi Racine, the CEO and co-founder of Behaviour Interactive, expressed in a press statement, “We feel honored to bring on board a developer as skilled as Red Hook. Earlier this year, we set a lofty ambition for our publishing future – to have Behaviour associated with horror and to create a library of equally impressive horror games around the game ‘Dead by Daylight’.

Buying Red Hook is another strong move we’re making towards our goal. We might have more similar acquisitions in the future, particularly in the horror genre.

Chris Bourassa, a co-founder at Red Hook Studios, expressed that they’ve discovered fellow spirits in the team at Behaviour. Both studios hail from Canada, work independently, and share a passion for creating terrifyingly great horror games. The main difference between us lies in scale, which presents fresh opportunities. The backing from Behaviour will empower us to chase our dreams for Red Hook’s future and dedicate ourselves entirely to turning Darkest Dungeon into an unstoppable force in the dark fantasy genre.

Tyler Sigman, co-founder of Studio, expressed, “Linking up with Behaviour is thrilling in various aspects. They’ve shown a dedication to letting our team carry on creating Darkest Dungeon in the way we excel at, yet with their extensive expertise and resources. Our combined strength surpasses individual capabilities. Notably, there’s a mutual affection for Darkest Dungeon, and with Behaviour’s assistance, we can explore even more of this franchise’s depths.

The future influence on the Darkest Dungeon series is yet unclear, but it’s important to note that Red Hook Studios will continue to maintain their independence while working under the supervision of Behaviour Interactive.

While I eagerly await the next chapter in my Darkest Dungeon 2 adventure, I’m thrilled to know that the creators are busy crafting Kingdoms, a captivating new free campaign for the game. This standalone expansion unfolds in three intriguing modules, with the first, The Hunger of the Beast Clan, set to be released in Q4 2024.
