Forty years on, and this iconic film still stands the test of time, much like the indomitable Arnold Schwarzenegger himself.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of James Cameron’s groundbreaking 1984 action movie, The Terminator, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Exciting news for fans as new Blu-ray versions are coming soon! However, the pre-orders for the Steelbook Limited Edition 4K Blu-ray flew off the shelves shortly after they were launched last month. Fortunately, the standard edition is still available and its cover was unveiled today along with a release date of November 19th.

Terminator’s Iconic “I’ll Be Back” Line

In a fresh Netflix documentary featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger, it emerged that the actor and director James Cameron had contrasting views regarding the dialogue for the Terminator’s crucial scene. It seems that Arnold wasn’t fond of the lines as written in the original script.

During the filming of the scene at a police station, Cameron explained, “At one point, Arnold was supposed to say, ‘I’ll come back,’ but he didn’t. Instead, I suggested he should say, ‘I’ll be back.’ It wasn’t intended to be a grand moment; it was just meant to convey, ‘No worries, I’ll return.’

Later on, Schwarzenegger pointed out that the phrase “I’ll be back” might not fit his character well since he’s a machine. Instead, he believed that “I will be back” would sound more mechanical and align better with how the character would speak.

Schwarzenegger asked, “‘Are you the author?'” To which I replied, “No.” He then retorted, “Then don’t instruct me on how to write, if you don’t mind.

Indeed, Cameron’s assertion has proven accurate over time, since that particular dialogue has become one of the most frequently referenced lines from cinema.
