Netflix's One Piece Set Photos Bring a Big Season 2 Set to Life

As a long-time One Piece enthusiast who’s seen countless episodes and read every manga volume, I can say with confidence that the revelation of Whisky Peak during the filming for season two is nothing short of exhilarating! It’s been years since we last visited this notorious town filled with bounty hunters, and it’s fantastic to see it coming to life in live-action.

Although details about One Piece’s second season were shared during Netflix Geeked Week, the streaming service hasn’t disclosed a release date yet for season two. Actors Joe Manganiello and Lera Above have joined the cast as Crocodile and Nico Robin respectively, but the live-action revival of One Piece is still underway since filming continues in South Africa. Fans of One Piece are getting a sneak peek at some sets from afar thanks to the filming in Cape Town, with one observant anime fan even spotting a recognizable location from the One Piece series.

If you’re not acquainted with Whisky Peak, it’s portrayed as a town that warmly receives pirates. However, beware, for the residents are not always what they seem; they’re actually bounty hunters who seek to capture and claim the rewards of the visiting pirates. This place offers a glimpse into Baroqueworks and holds significant moments like the introduction of Princess Vivi to the Straw Hat crew. Additionally, this smaller storyline features an intriguing fight between Luffy and Zoro that might take viewers by surprise when it’s adapted for live-action.

Whisky Peak Revealed

A fan capturing photos from the filming of the live-action version of One Piece in Cape Town, South Africa, has offered a glimpse to anime enthusiasts of what Whisky Peak might appear like in season two. Given the central role of this town inhabited by bounty hunters, it’s not shocking that it will continue to feature in the live-action series. Since Whisky Peak is significant in the One Piece narrative, it seems plausible that its inclusion will occur approximately halfway through the second season.

One Piece Season Two: The Environments

Atop Whisky Peak, One Piece’s second season promises a host of exotic locales. Confirmed by the creator Eiichiro Oda, these include Loguetown, Reverse Mountain, Little Garden, and Drum Island. These story arcs may vary in importance to the overarching narrative, but each plays a crucial role in depicting the grand adventures across the Grand Line. The events unfolding on Whisky Peak are pivotal for the development of Baroqueworks as well as introducing several new characters who will become allies and adversaries for Monkey D. Luffy and his comrades.

Where’s Alabasta?

Although Crocodile and Nico Robin are included, it doesn’t necessarily mean that Alabasta will be a central focus in season two. Given the expansive nature of that storyline and the numerous characters within the desert setting, delaying its appearance until season three seems logical. Fortunately, several beloved characters from Alabasta will still have significant roles in season two, demonstrating the dedication of the One Piece team to preserve the essence of the original material appropriately.

Although the exact number of episodes for the next season of One Piece hasn’t been decided yet, cramming all these storylines into just eight to ten episodes would be extremely challenging due to the numerous plot points and characters involved in this sprawling tale. Given the complexity of the narrative and the large cast, it seems that fans will have to exercise a bit more patience before they can witness Luffy’s epic showdown with Crocodile. But rest assured, the wait promises to be rewarding.
