Well now, let me tell ya, I ain’t no spring chicken when it comes to wrestling. I remember clear as day when NXT made its grand debut on USA Network back in 2019. It was a sight to behold, and I’ve been hooked ever since.
Five years ago today, on September 18th, 2019, WWE NXT made its grand premiere on the USA Network – a fact that seems hard to believe now. During the initial broadcast, episodes were streamed simultaneously on two different platforms. Over the past five years, much has changed, and tonight marks the end of NXT’s run on USA before it moves to The CW. WWE superstars are expressing their farewells to this era on social media, and you can see their responses in the next slide.
Initially, the USA showcased the first hour of the USA Network, followed by a live second hour on the WWE Network. Since then, most of the WWE’s content has moved to Peacock in the US, and some weekly content will transition to Netflix next year. In other words, there have been quite a few shifts in their broadcasting journey.
In the coming week, we’ll witness an exciting debut of NXT on CW, with WWE ensuring a spectacular event by stacking the card. Prior to this grand occurrence, several stars who have been part of NXT’s journey have expressed their thoughts, memories, and aspirations for the future via social media. Karrion Kross
Karrion Kross expressed gratitude towards NXT, USA Network, and everyone who attended or watched during his tenure in NXT, calling those moments some of the most memorable of his career. During his time in NXT, Kross appeared as a destructive force, rising to become a prominent main event competitor alongside Scarlett. His unique entrance particularly stood out during the era of NXT on USA Network.
Triple H
Triple H ushers in a fresh chapter while also saying goodbye to the past, but as he notes in his post, it’s always #WeAreNXT. NXT has been close to Triple H’s heart for a long time, and despite Shawn Michaels currently leading the brand, you can see that his affection for it remains strong.
Charlotte Flair
A select few are as closely associated with NXT as the Four Horsewomen, and The Queen recently expressed her admiration for NXT’s stint on USA Network via social media. Flair played a significant role in that initial phase, and in her tribute, she referred to NXT on USA Network as “the nursery of champions.
Grayson Waller
Tonight, Grayson Waller came back to NXT, marking his farewell to The Grayson Waller Effect, accompanied by his tag team partner Austin Theory. Notably, both of them have had significant moments on NXT, making their return for the brand’s last show on USA Network seems fitting. While Waller isn’t one for sentimentality, he did express his genuine emotions about concluding this monumental chapter by posting a broken heart emoji on social media.
Jakara Jackson
Jakara Jackson from Meta-Four, in her turn, bid farewell with optimism. She described the last episode on USA as both sweet and bitter, yet expressed that fresh starts are always charming.
Natalya
In addition to offering tributes, the B.O.A.T. (Bayley, Sasha Banks, and Naomi, collectively known as The Four Horsewomen) shared that they had some of their most cherished wrestling memories in NXT. Natalya expressed her feelings by saying, “NXT is a magical stage for a wrestler to shine and truly feel like a star,” and added that she has an immense affection for this brand that never fades. She also spoke about her anticipation for the future on The CW (where NXT airs).
