Julianne Hough Details "Soul Retrieval" Ceremony After Her Dogs Died

As a lifestyle expert with a deep appreciation for personal growth and resilience, I find Julianne Hough‘s journey to be truly inspiring. Her ability to cope with such a devastating loss by embracing new concepts like soul fragmentation and finding solace in healing practices is commendable.

Julianne Hough has finally found her peace.

About five years since the tragic coyote attack that took the lives of her cherished dogs Lexi (age 11) and Harley (age 8), the host of “Dancing With the Stars” is looking back on their loss and finding peace, as she has recently come to understand the idea of soul fragmentation during an energy retreat, allowing her to release them.

On The Jamie Kern Lima Show, September 23rd, she expressed that when something extremely unfortunate occurs, a part of you, like a piece of your spirit, becomes separated and is connected to the event itself.

For Julianne, it was as if her spirit shattered upon the loss of her beloved pets. She believed that a part of herself remained with them, so she described it as a process of reclaiming her soul while simultaneously returning a piece of hers to them.

She acknowledged, “I understand now that I may have been hindering them. It’s important for them to progress and leave the past behind.

After undergoing a soul retrieval process, the 36-year-old expressed that she felt “completely integrated” for the first time since their loved one’s passing, which significantly contributed to the creation of her song titled “Tiny Oceans,” inspired by her deep sorrow for her new novel Everything We Never Knew. This work of fiction also contains a tribute to her cherished pets, as the primary character bears the name Lexi.

She shared, “The song I composed was inspired by the book where Lexi encounters a sorrowful event. It deliberately expresses my inner turmoil, the shattering of my soul or self, and the profound agony of that loss, which is the most excruciating form of grief I’ve known, experienced alongside my dear friends.

The actress who played in “Rock of Ages” openly discussed the anguish she experienced when Lexi and Harley were fatally attacked by coyotes during her bachelorette trip to Lake Tahoe in 2019.

She told Jamie, “Upon arriving that very evening, I went straight to bed. Before my phone could even ring, I felt an intuition, and I knew something was wrong. Grabbing the phone, my assistant burst out in alarm.

Fortunately, Julianne’s aide managed to locate the remains of the two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. Eager to be reunited, Julianne rushed home to spend precious moments with them before their cremation took place.

Despite the cremation, the dancer continued to sense the presence of the pups with her as she and her family were on their way home. This feeling was particularly potent when a track from the late 2000’s “Gladiator” movie started playing in the car.

She recalled, “My brother pulled over the car as sunlight streamed in, and in that moment, I was completely immersed in their presence. They kissed me, and I could sense their very souls so vividly. It was a breathtakingly beautiful experience.

Since the passing of Lexi and Harley, Julianne has additionally discovered alternative methods for healing, such as adopting a new puppy named Sunny in 2023.

Sunny, on your first birthday last July, she posted on Instagram, expressing how much joy and genuine brightness you’ve brought into her life. She says she can’t recall a moment before you entered, and Lexi & Harley would have adored playing with you every day. She believes they sent you to her, at just the right time when she was ready to embrace love once more—you managed to open up her heart, sweetheart.
