Bobby Moynihan Wants to Play His LEGO Star Wars Character in Live-Action

As a seasoned gamer and a die-hard Star Wars fan with decades of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement upon hearing Bobby Moynihan‘s desire to bring his Jedi Bob character to life in live-action someday. The man behind the iconic Drunk Uncle on Saturday Night Live certainly has the comedic chops to breathe new life into the galaxy far, far away.

Bobby Moynihan, a cast member on Saturday Night Live who voices Bobarian Afol in Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy, expresses his aspiration to bring this character to live-action one day. Known endearingly as “Jedi Bob,” this character is a significant lead in the latest special and fits the comedic style Moynihan is known for, deviating from the usual portrayal of serious, lightsaber-wielding Jedi masters.

Two weeks ago, the LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy premiered on Disney+. Moynihan stars in this special alongside Gaten Matarazzo, Tony Revolori, Ahmed Best, and others. Although he doesn’t get to play Jedi Bob, Moynihan finds it entertaining to imagine himself as a peculiar extraterrestrial creature within the Star Wars universe.

Moynihan expressed his fondness for ‘Star Wars’, stating he yearns to partake in live-action ‘Star Wars’. His aspiration is to portray an alien character with a hidden face, such as a slug or similar creature. In essence, his ultimate goal is to appear in a live-action orca costume, reduced in size – that’s his dream.

This chance discovery catapults him into a thrilling journey through a reimagined galaxy, filled with uncharted wonders, moral complexities, and sinister twists. Here, the lines between good and evil blur, heroes become villains, villains transform into allies, and the destiny of countless beings rests upon Sig’s shoulders as he strives to restore balance and order.

The movie titled “LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy” features Gaten Matarazzo from Stranger Things, Bobby Moynihan known for SNL, Tony Revolori famous for the Spider-Man Trilogy, Marsai Martin of Black-ish, Michael Cusack from Smiling Friends. Ahmed Best, who played Darth Jar Jar in The Phantom Menace and Obi-Wan, reprises his role here, while Mark Hamill lends his voice to the character of Luke Skywalker.

25 years have passed since the innovative partnership between Lucasfilm and The LEGO Group started, as expressed by executive producer James Waugh. Over this period, LEGO Star Wars has allowed fans to unleash their creativity and construct the galaxy using their imagination in any way they desire. With a playful mindset, we aimed to revitalize the galaxy with our latest project, ‘Rebuild the Galaxy’. We enlisted the comedic prowess of Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit, two exceptionally talented comedy writers I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with, to design sets that combine Imperial X-fighters, Rebel TIE-wings, and even Darth Jar Jar. This four-episode special is a tribute to everything Star Wars, LEGO, and the inventive possibilities that emerge when these two fantastic brands unite.
