As a film enthusiast with a penchant for British dramas and a soft spot for 80’s nostalgia, I must say that the upcoming Disney Plus series “Rivals” has me more than a little intrigued. The teaser trailer, set to the rhythmic beats of “Don’t Leave Me This Way”, offers a tantalizing glimpse into a world filled with backstabbing, scandal, and the kind of romantic entanglements that only the 80’s could deliver.

The highly anticipated Disney Plus series, Rivals, features what could be one of the top ensembles this year – and recently, fans got an even better glimpse of the program due to a freshly released trailer.

Before its release next month, we’ll get our first extended sneak peek with the full-length trailer. This preview includes a moment where David Tennant confronts both Aidan Turner and Alex Hassell, while introducing us to new characters from the ‘Cooperverse’ that haven’t been seen before.

It was officially announced last month that the show, adapted from Dame Jilly Cooper’s novel, is scheduled for release on Disney Plus on October 18th. That means we’re just under a month away from its premiere, making it one of the highly anticipated TV events slated for 2024.

Disney Plus describes the eight-part drama as brimming with “romantic complications, underhanded agreements, sensuality, and clever banter.

In the vibrant setting of 1980s England, where power struggles among the high society were as dramatic as they come, the series “Rivals” plunges deep into the cutthroat realm of independent television in 1986.

The series features Hassell as Rupert Campbell-Black, Tennant as Lord Tony Baddingham, and Turner as Declan O’Hara. Other notable roles include Bella Maclean, Danny Dyer, Katherine Parkinson, Nafessa Williams, Emily Atack, and several others.

On The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show recently, Tennant was questioned regarding the upcoming adaptation. During this discussion, Scott Mills (substitute host) commented on Cooper’s book, describing it as “quite explicit.

Tennant responded: “It’s a little racy, sure.”

Previously, Dominic Treadwell-Collins, a writer and executive producer, mentioned during an interview with The Times that the series has been fair in its depiction of nudity. He stated, “For every set of breasts, there’s a male counterpart.

He commented: “Jilly appears soft and charming, yet she possesses a keen, unyielding gaze when addressing issues like sexism, homophobia, racism, and class.
