As a die-hard fan of the John Wick franchise, I’ve been eagerly waiting for any news about Ballerina, and this latest teaser has sent me into a frenzy! The ballerina music box slowly coming into focus – it’s like watching Keanu Reeves himself, ever so graceful and mysterious.
It’s been a while since we got any official news regarding “Ballerina,” the upcoming spinoff of “John Wick” starring Ana de Armas. However, that’s about to change as a teaser video from Lionsgate has been released and sent via text message to John Wick fans. The full trailer for the movie will be unveiled tomorrow. In the film, Ana de Armas takes on the lead role of “Ballerina,” with Gabriel Byrne also starring. Additionally, we see the late Lance Reddick in the cast, and surprisingly, Keanu Reeves reprises his role as John Wick, despite his character’s apparent demise in the fourth film back in 2023.
The trailer doesn’t give any footage from the movie (or at least not any that features an actor), instead bringing the image of a ballerina music box slowly into focus. You can see it below.
In an interview with Collider, franchise star Ian McShane revealed that this story takes place somewhere between John Wick 3 and John Wick 4. The reason for this is that Keanu Reeves, who plays the title character, also appears in it. Setting it after John Wick 4 could cause speculation about John’s survival and potential future adventures, so by placing it earlier, they can maintain the mystery of whether or not there will be a John Wick 5.
There’s been mixed information about it, and whispers continue that John Wick Chapter 5 might be underway (or already being made), but Lionsgate hasn’t officially confirmed this yet.
Regarding the movie “Ballerina,” its initial release date was planned for 2024, but it’s been shifted to June 2025 due to the need for extra filming that will incorporate additional scenes. This isn’t all that unexpected, given the ongoing speculation, development, and production of new installments in the “Wick” universe, which seems to be a dynamic and ever-evolving storytelling environment.
During those additional filming sessions, everything we captured was essential, according to de Armas. The footage turned out fantastic; it’s truly awe-inspiring. I’ve been informed that a trailer will be released shortly, and let me tell you, it’s stunning. I feel incredibly proud of it. It’s quite exhilarating. It’s action-packed, sensual, and very reminiscent of ‘John Wick.’ I believe the audience is in for a surprise. Naturally, I’m biased, but I think this movie is really cool, and I can’t wait for it to be released.
