Emmerdale’s Tom plots against Belle as she prepares to report his abuse

As a movie buff with a soft spot for soaps and a keen interest in stories that delve into the complexities of human relationships, I must say that tonight’s Emmerdale episode was as gripping as it was heart-wrenching. The plot involving Tom King and Belle Dingle is a stark reminder of the insidious nature of domestic abuse, particularly coercive control, a topic close to my heart given my background in counseling survivors.

This article contains discussion of domestic abuse, including coercive control, that some readers may find upsetting.

In tonight’s Emmerdale (September 25, 2024), James Chase (Tom King) devised a plan to harm his estranged wife, Belle (Eden Taylor-Draper). This sinister move came at a time when Belle was about to file an abuse report with the police.

Following Belle’s disclosure about her suffering at Tom’s hands, he vanished – captivating Amelia Spencer (played by Daisy Campbell), who began clandestine meetings with him.

In the ongoing ITV soap opera, Belle confided in her cousin Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) and her older brother Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley), disclosing her intention to contact the authorities.

At the same time, Cain shared that his daughter Debbie (Charley Webb) had contacted them, since Cain and Belle’s father Zak (previously portrayed by Steve Halliwell) wasn’t feeling well.

Cain made it clear to Belle that he planned to journey to Scotland to look after Zak. Upon hearing Chas mention that “Cain will handle the situation,” Amelia got upset, assuming he meant trouble for Tom.

Chas instructed Amelia to leave, so the rebellious teenager decided to depart from the Woolpack, expressing a desire to live with Kerry Wyatt (Laura Norton) and Amy Barton (Natalie Ann Jamieson). This move caused both women to worry that Amelia was still aligned with Tom.

Amy visited Belle, offering her support and sharing her experience working in a women’s shelter.

Inquiring about Amelia’s situation with concern, Amy softly questioned Belle about any mistreatment from Tom, aiming to reveal his true character to Amelia.

Afterward, Amelia and Tom crossed paths in the forest. There, she filled him in about Cain’s intention to see his father and encouraged Tom to make an appearance, so they could officially be a couple.

In a moment, Tom lashed out at Amelia, prompting her to leave hurriedly. We secretly wished that this incident might have revealed the real him to her at last.

When Amy shared Belle’s story with Amelia, she remained skeptical. But when Kerry accused Tom of killing Piper, this prompted Amelia to directly inquire from him about the dog’s whereabouts.

Tom, who was known for not telling the truth, claimed he’d attempted to rescue Piper from Belle. Later, he expressed affection for Amelia and requested her assistance for a scheme to thwart Belle tomorrow, as she threatened to ruin things. So, what might Tom be planning to do next?
