Is Kenny Omega Teasing His AEW In-Ring Return at Upcoming Pay-Per-View?

As a seasoned gamer with a heart that beats for professional wrestling, I can’t help but feel a sense of anticipation as the wrestling world seems to be abuzz with the potential rekindling of the epic rivalry between Kenny Omega and Hiroshi Tanahashi. The memories of their electrifying matches in the Tokyo Dome are still fresh in my mind, and it’s exciting to imagine what they might cook up this time around.

Professional wrestler Kenny Omega from AEW has been on a break from in-ring performances since last December following a severe and potentially life-threatening bout with diverticulitis. In stark contrast, had he delayed his diagnosis, it could have proven fatal. Fortunately, he’s managed to regain control of his health and underwent surgery that removed approximately 20 centimeters of his colon, as confirmed by Michael Nakazawa. Omega has been rather silent about his recovery schedule, leaving fans uncertain when — or even if — he’ll be allowed back in the ring again.

Lately, Kota Ibushi, his good friend, has been giving fans updates on Omega’s recovery by sharing pictures with him, including one this week showing them sparring in the ring where Omega looked fit as a fiddle. Today, New Japan Pro Wrestling ignited excitement online with a brief video of Omega meeting up with Japanese wrestling icon and NJPW President Hiroshi Tanahashi.

Tana reminisces about their last encounter at Tokyo Dome in 2019 during the Wrestle Kingdom event, where they were headliners. He bested Omega to claim the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship, marking Omega’s farewell match in New Japan Pro-Wrestling as he moved on to team up with the Young Bucks, Cody Rhodes, and “Hangman” Adam Page to establish All Elite Wrestling (AEW).

Ever since his initial appearances in Japan, I’ve been eagerly watching as Omega made his official comeback at Wrestle Kingdom, squaring off against NJPW’s shining star, Will Ospreay. In that highly anticipated match, Omega not only matched wits with Ospreay but also reclaimed the IWGP United States Championship from him, a title Ospreay had won at Forbidden Door. As Tanahashi says in a voiceover, “We wrestled in the main event in the Tokyo Dome in 2019. That match and its aftermath, it was an exceptional circumstance. So I think everyone is intrigued to see how we’ve evolved.” With a mix of emotions but undeniable excitement, I can’t wait to witness what he brings next.

At the Wrestle Dynasty pay-per-view, there’s hinted tension between two rivals, potentially leading to an exciting showdown. This gathering will unite talent from NJPW, AEW, ROH, and STARDOM for a historic first time. Although Omega is not yet given the green light, it appears that they’re optimistic he’ll be ready to compete by January. The massive event is scheduled only a day after Wrestle Kingdom 19.
