You can now pre-order the PS5 Pro, along with the PS5 30th Anniversary Collection, directly through PlayStation Direct. Although the new Sony console won’t hit the shelves until November 7, this marks the first time PlayStation is making the premium model available for pre-orders ahead of its release. However, it remains uncertain how many more opportunities to pre-order there might be before November 7 as the exact amount of stock PlayStation has is not disclosed.
It’s yet to be determined how fierce the pre-orders for the PS5 will turn out, given its notorious scarcity during its launch and the subsequent two years, despite high demand due to limited supply. The $700 price tag could potentially dampen demand, but historically, demand is always highest during the initial pre-order phase. This could mean a swift sale of stock, though future restocks might help alleviate this issue.
At present, the PS5 Pro can only be pre-ordered on PlayStation Direct within the United States. This arrangement will continue until October 10th. Later, the console will be available for purchase through retailers such as GameStop, Amazon, Walmart, Target, Best Buy, and others; however, before that date, it is exclusive to PlayStation Direct. The reason behind this decision by Sony remains unclear, but it may be aimed at directing more customers towards their platform, where they can keep a larger portion of the sales without sharing with retailers. Additionally, it could be a strategy to manage potential pre-order chaos, as limiting sales to one site allows for better control over the environment and prevents website crashes and scalpers from buying all available stock.
Beyond the regular PS5 Pro, you can now pre-order the PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection, and it’s accessible through PlayStation Direct too. The 30th Anniversary Collection includes a special edition of the PS5 Pro, but to secure the 30th Anniversary Edition PS5 Pro, fans must purchase a bundle that comes with additional items, which significantly increases the price tag to $999.99. Unfortunately, it’s not possible to buy this version of the console individually. The standard 30th Anniversary Edition PS5 can be pre-ordered separately, but not the 30th Anniversary Edition PS5 Pro, which is limited to only 12,300 units worldwide.
