Ballerina Trailer Expands the World of John Wick

As a die-hard John Wick fan with over a decade of action movie marathons under my belt, I can confidently say that the upcoming spinoff, Ballerina, has me absolutely thrilled! The teaser from Chapter 3 was a tantalizing taste, and now, with the release of this trailer, it’s clear that the wait will be worth it.

Prepare to immerse yourself once more in the ruthless universe of John Wick, as we shift focus from Keanu Reeves’ iconic character to Ana de Armas in the upcoming spinoff film, Ballerina. The tale of this ballerina was hinted at in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, and come next summer, that intriguing suggestion will unfold.

On Wednesday, it was announced that the initial trailer for the movie titled Ballerina would be released, with a preview scheduled to go live online on Thursday. Luckily, Thursday is here, and we now have our first sneak peek at the much-anticipated John Wick spinoff. You can watch it below!

In the movie “Ballerina,” Ana de Armas plays Rooney, a dual role as both a ballerina and an assassin, who’s on a mission to track down those responsible for her family’s death. The film features Gabriel Byrne, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Norman Reedus, and Lance Reddick in his final screen performance. Notably, Ian McShane and Keanu Reeves from “John Wick” will reappear in their respective roles for this movie. Len Wiseman is directing the film with a script co-written by Shay Hatten and Derek Kolstad.

Originally scheduled for release this year, the film “Ballerina” has been postponed until 2025 to allow for some extra filming of action scenes. The renowned director Chad Stahelski, who now manages the entire “John Wick” franchise, is collaborating with Wiseman to oversee these new action sequences.

In her conversation with Collider, de Armas shared that everything they filmed during reshoots was essential. The footage turned out fantastic; it’s truly awe-inspiring. A trailer is scheduled for release soon, she mentioned. She had the chance to preview it, and she found it stunning. She feels incredibly proud of it. It’s quite exhilarating. It’s risky, it’s seductive, and it has a definite John Wick vibe. She believes the audience will be taken aback. Of course, she’s biased, but she genuinely thinks the movie is cool. She anticipates it will be fantastic.

In the third film of the John Wick series, hints were dropped about the tale of Ballerina. Given this, it’s logical that this spinoff is set after that movie, thereby providing Keanu Reeves with an opportunity to reprise his role, considering his character appeared to meet his end in Chapter 4.

McShane clarified earlier that it’s not about re-filming scenes but rather shooting new ones for the Ballerina spinoff of the John Wick franchise, featuring Ana de Armas. Essentially, they’re ensuring the quality and continuity of the franchise. He mentioned that they filmed the movie around a year ago, and now Chad Stahelski, who directed all John Wick films, is involved to enhance it as it falls between John Wick 3 and 4, with Keanu Reeves also being part of it.

Ballerina is set to hit theaters on June 6, 2025.
