As a lifelong fan of professional wrestling, I find myself intrigued by the rumblings surrounding Shane McMahon’s potential future in AEW. The man has been a staple in the world of sports entertainment for decades, and his connections within the industry are as vast as the Great Wall of China.

The possibility of Shane McMahon joining All Elite Wrestling (AEW) is currently generating a lot of buzz in the wrestling community. Once seen as the likely successor to Vince McMahon’s WWE empire, Shane had a disagreement with his family business in early 2022, but he reappeared at WWE WrestleMania 39 in April 2023. During this event, Shane wrestled an unexpected match and tore his quad mere seconds after the bell rang. He subsequently left to heal from the injury, and since then, he has not been under any contract with WWE.

Rumors about Shane potentially returning to wrestling, either as a performer or off-stage, in AEW started swirling earlier this summer. These rumors gained traction when Shane ran into AEW TBS Champion Mercedes Mon? at an airport and the flames grew higher after he had a private conversation with AEW President Tony Khan.

Shane-O-Mac’s AEW connections grow further.

On social media, the AEW Executive Vice Presidents Matt and Nick Jackson (also known as The Young Bucks) posted a picture of them along with Shane McMahon at an airport.

“Interesting flight today,” The Young Bucks captioned the image.

There seems to be some uncertainty about whether the AEW World Tag Team Champions happened to encounter Shane or if their meeting was prearranged. Additionally, it is not clear if they were both en route to the same final destination.

This image is taken a few months following the time when AEW President Tony Khan had a confidential discussion with Shane at a Texas airport regarding potential future plans.

Khan expressed that the topic they discussed was significant and thrilling when asked about his chat with Shane. He admitted he’s unsure of what’s ahead, but it’s an electrifying period in AEW. Interestingly, this was their first encounter, and despite not knowing him beforehand, there was a palpable energy about the meeting. He felt it would be worthwhile to engage, and he holds Shane in high regard. Despite never having met him prior, Shane came across as a genuinely amiable individual.

“I sat down with him, he was fantastic. I really enjoyed talking with him. He is a very smart person about wrestling and I thought he was a great guy. A mutual friend linked us up, who is one of the bigger names in pro wrestling, and that friend put us on a group chat. I enjoyed the conversation and there is nothing wrong with a couple of people getting together and talking about wrestling.”

Rumors are circulating that the groundwork for Shane’s entry into AEW might have been subtly set in a fresh narrative plotline.
