The Ghost Rider Easter Egg You May Have Missed in Agatha All Along Episode 3

The Ghost Rider Easter Egg You May Have Missed in Agatha All Along Episode 3

As a seasoned Marvel enthusiast with over two decades of comic books under my belt (and a few too many late nights spent in front of the TV), I must say that the latest episode of Agatha All Along has left me both thrilled and intrigued. The Mephisto mention was long-awaited, but it’s the subtle Easter eggs hidden within that have truly piqued my interest.

In episode 3 of “Agatha All Along,” titled “Through Many Miles / Of Tricks and Trials,” fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe were thrilled to hear the long-awaited mention of Mephisto, Marvel’s most malevolent devil. Yet, as is often the case, the true intrigue lies in the finer points. While the utterance of “Mephisto” certainly caught many fans off guard, a more significant detail to observe is who initially brought up this name. This is noteworthy because the series “Agatha All Along” might be hinting at more than just one pivotal occult character with its Mephisto reference.

WARNING: SPOILERS FOLLOW!

In the third episode of “Agatha All Along,” Agatha and her coven embark on the initial test of the Witches’ Road, where they find themselves in a vintage setting contaminated by enchanted wine. The objective is for the witches to strengthen their bond and create a remedy to counteract the poison. Primarily, this responsibility lies with potions specialist Jennifer Kale, portrayed by Sasheer Zamata.

As I’m waiting for the witches’ covenant, there seems to be tension among them first. Jennifer decides to stir things up by mocking Agatha’s new companion, Teen (Joe Locke), casting doubt on the tricky Ms. Harkness. She spreads whispers about Agatha’s past, hinting at the gossip that she supposedly traded her own baby boy for the Darkhold. More whispers follow, suggesting that Agatha’s son might be a demon or even an “agent of Mephisto.

Agatha All Along’s Mephisto Mention Is Also A Ghost Rider Easter Egg

It’s possible that Jennifer Kale is hiding more information than we realize regarding Mephisto and his associates, as there’s a suggestion that one of these associates might actually be connected to her family lineage.

According to Marvel Comics lore, Jennifer Kale shares sorceress powers and often teams up with Man-Thing and other supernatural characters. Interestingly, she’s also a direct descendant of “Noble Kale,” a Puritan man from the 17th century. Noble Kale’s father was a corrupt pastor who sold his soul to Mephisto. However, Noble possessed a fragment of the Medallion of Power that housed the power of the Spirits of Vengeance. When Mephisto activated this power, Noble became the Ghost Rider of his time. After completing his service, he was trapped in the void and bound to the firstborn child in each generation of the Kale family. This binding continued all the way down to Dan Ketch, who is also known as Ghost Rider and is a direct descendant of Noble Kale.

Mephisto has a long reach across the Marvel Universe that goes back ages. He arguably has a hand (direct or otherwise) in the creation of so many of the supernatural heroes and villains we know – be it Ghost Rider, Blackheart, or Scarlet Witch’s children Wiccan and Speed. So if Agatha All Along is positioning him to be THE big bad of the Supernatural MCU, getting these characters (Wiccan, Jen Kale, Agatha, Ghost Rider) along the same lines is key.
