James Gunn's Superman Adds Alan Tudyk in a Mystery Role

As a die-hard fan of comic book adaptations, I am beyond thrilled to see Alan Tudyk joining James Gunn’s Superman reboot! With his diverse and impressive resume, from Firefly to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, it’s clear that Tudyk has the talent to bring any character to life.

Recently, I learned that after wrapping up filming, James Gunn’s Superman reboot has brought on board a familiar face. Last Thursday, it was confirmed that Alan Tudyk, known for his roles in Firefly and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, will be joining the cast of the upcoming Superman movie in an undisclosed role. Interestingly enough, Tudyk is already part of Gunn and Peter Safran’s expanding DC Universe, as he has been confirmed to play the villain Doctor Phosphorus in their upcoming animated series, Creature Commandos. As a die-hard fan, I can hardly wait to see what roles these talented actors bring to life in our beloved DC Universe!

At this stage, it’s not certain if Tudyk is returning as Doctor Phosphorus or has been given a fresh role in the upcoming Superman film. Since principal photography on Superman has concluded and Gunn hinted that additional shooting won’t be necessary, there’s a possibility that Tudyk’s new character could be a voice for a computer-generated being. Fans have already hypothesized that Krypto, Superman’s dog sidekick, or the robot assistant Kelex might appear in the film. Regardless of his role, this would add to Tudyk’s growing list of DC characters, as he voices both Clayface and The Joker in the Harley Quinn series, played Mr. Nobody in Doom Patrol, and appeared as Van Wayne on the short-lived NBC sitcom Powerless.

Who Is Alan Tudyk Playing in Creature Commandos?

Back in 1977’s Detective Comics #469, I stumbled upon the creation of Alexander James Sartorius, who was tragically turned into Doctor Phosphorus following a catastrophic nuclear power plant accident. Ever since, my transformed appearance – irradiated and see-through skin – has made me an occasional yet intriguing character in the comics. Over the years, I’ve found myself at odds with the Dark Knight himself, Batman, as his adversary.

In a previous statement, Tudyk described his character as having a resemblance to Ghost Rider, due to being “a skeleton on fire”. He jokingly added that this character is also a DC Comics figure, although he’s actually a doctor – albeit not an obstetrician. However, he wasn’t entirely sure about the details of his character’s origin story in the comics, as it is explained in the series and animated show.

What Is James Gunn’s Superman About?

According to DC Studios, Superman narrates the tale of how Superman navigates his dual identity – a Kryptonian alien and a human raised in Smallville, Kansas as Clark Kent. He symbolizes honesty, righteousness, and a brighter future, drawing strength from human compassion amidst a world that often views such qualities as outdated.

In this upcoming production of Superman, David Corenswet takes on the roles of both Clark Kent/Superman, while Rachel Brosnahan portrays Lois Lane. Nicholas Hoult steps into Lex Luthor’s shoes, Skyler Gisondo plays Jimmy Olsen, Wendell Pierce becomes Perry White, Sara Sampaio is cast as Eve Teschmacher, Terence Rosemore assumes the role of Otis, Mar?a Gabriela de Far?a portrays Angela Spica / The Engineer, Isabela Merced will be Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion stars as Guy Gardner, Edi Gathegi is Mr. Terrific (Michael Holt), Anthony Carrigan takes on Rex Mason / Metamorpho, Beck Bennett portrays Steve Lombard, Mikaela Hoover becomes Cat Grant, and Christopher McDonald plays Ron Troupe.
