AEW's Mercedes Mone Reveals Vince McMahon's Role in WWE Departure

As a seasoned gamer who has witnessed and lived through countless stories of professional wrestling, I find myself deeply moved by Mercedes Mon?’s journey outside the WWE. Her decision to depart from the world’s largest wrestling organization was not just a simple walkout but a bold stand against the very foundation she had built her career upon.

Mercedes Mon (also known as Naomi) recently shared more insights about her departure from WWE alongside Naomi in 2022. As the Women’s Tag Team Champions, they left unexpectedly during an episode of WWE Raw, leading to their indefinite suspension. This decision significantly affected their careers – Naomi joined TNA and even won the Knockouts Championship before returning to WWE at this year’s Royal Rumble. Mercedes, however, ventured towards Japan where she wrestled for New Japan Pro Wrestling. Unfortunately, an injury curtailed her stay, but she is now back and thriving with AEW.

In a recent interview on The Breakfast Club while publicizing AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam, Mon spoke about her issues stemming from a sense of disrespect she felt towards “The Chairman.” Although Mon didn’t explicitly mention Vince McMahon, it can be inferred that this refers to his former position before leaving the company.

“I left for many different reasons. A lot of personal stuff happened with myself and the Chairman at the time. I didn’t like how he talked to me and how I was talked down to. I was like, ‘It’s time to listen to your soul and your heart.’ There was a light that came to me and I left WWE. A guide told me,” she said.

When asked if Vince acted strangely with her, she acknowledges that he did, even on the day they chose to depart. “Well, a bit odd. That day, he was a little strange with me. It was enough to make my conscience stir and say, ‘If you stay here, this isn’t acceptable. This is for your entire life. What kind of lessons are you going to teach your children? What kind of example are you setting for others?’ If you feel like this after ten years here, you must take a stand for yourself.’ That’s what I did. A sense of guidance within me urged, ‘You need to leave and find something better for yourself.'” (Credit: Fightful)

As I stand here, basking in the glory of my victories, I am proud to hold both the AEW TBS and NJPW STRONG Women’s Championships. My latest title defense was a thrilling encounter at the AEW All Out pay-per-view against Hikaru Shida earlier this month. What a match it was!
