Free PS Plus Game In Your Library Is About to Disappear Forever

As a long-time PlayStation enthusiast with countless hours invested in the platform’s rich library of games, this upcoming shutdown of Hood: Outlaws & Legends has left me feeling a tad melancholic. I vividly remember the excitement when it was offered for free through PS Plus back in April 2022, and the thrill of outlawing and robbing my way through its vibrant world. Now, with its impending closure on February 18, 2025, I find myself reminiscing about those carefree days of heisting treasures and evading the law.

Since 2022, games like Elden Ring, God of War Ragnarok, and others that were available for free on PlayStation Plus have been part of the libraries of PS4 and PS5 users. However, it’s important to note that these games will soon become unplayable unless you maintain your PlayStation Plus subscription. Some of the fantastic titles added in 2022 include Elden Ring, God of War Ragnarok, The Last of Us Part 1, Gran Turismo 7, Horizon Forbidden West, Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, Neon White, Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, Sonic Frontiers, and Destiny 2: The Witch Queen.

Individuals using PlayStation who weren’t engrossed in the latest releases for PS4 and PS5 during that year might have been occupied with the free games offered through PlayStation Plus. One of these free titles was Hood: Outlaws & Legends, which was made available via PlayStation Plus in April of that specific year. Unfortunately, if you’re interested in playing it, you should have done so already because it will cease to exist by February 18, 2025. In essence, the game may still be in your library through PS Plus, but come February 18, 2025, you won’t be able to access it as it will no longer be playable due to shutting down on that day.

“Making this move was tough, but essential, and we realize that it might come as a letdown,” the announcement about the closure states. “We, the Hood crew, want to express our deepest gratitude for your backing and devotion throughout this amazing journey. Every moment of it has been precious to us, and we hope your recollections of playing Hood: Outlaws & Legends will be as cherished by you as they have been by us.

For those new to the game, Hood: Outlaws & Legends was launched in 2021, a year prior to being distributed for free through PS Plus. Created by Sumo Digital and published by Focus Entertainment, it received average reviews upon release and appears to have had modest sales. While exact sales figures remain unknown, it’s evident that the game is not attracting enough current players to maintain its existence.

Instead of some PlayStation Plus games requiring payment, Hood: Outlaws & Legends was available for free download. This means that those with a PlayStation Plus subscription could download, retain ownership, and play the game at no additional cost as long as their subscription remained active. However, since it’s an online-only game, even if it’s in your library, taking the servers offline makes the game unplayable.
