Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has astonishingly sold a vast number of copies (even for an upgraded remake), and surprisingly, it continues to thrive without any signs of slowing down, even near the end of Nintendo Switch’s lifespan. In fact, it has just surpassed another significant sales threshold.

According to recent figures from Famitsu on weekly physical software sales in Japan, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe held a strong position, ranking second among the top-selling games for the week. Approximately 7,000 copies were sold during this period. Furthermore, it’s worth mentioning that the game’s total lifetime sales in Japan have surpassed 6 million units, with current sales standing at an impressive 6,005,594 units.

It’s surprising to note that, despite being a popular choice, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has yet to claim the title of best-selling Nintendo Switch game in Japan. That distinction belongs to Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which has sold more than 7.9 million units in Japan and is steadily approaching the 8 million mark. On the other hand, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate comes in second place, having sold over 5.5 million units in the region, following closely behind Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

It’s worth noting that the aforementioned figures only constitute physical sales, though Japan does see a larger share of physical sales than most other regions do. Regardless, the mentioned figures aren’t the full extent of the titles’ sales.

As of June 30, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s worldwide sales stand at 62.9 million units.
