How to Fish
Initially, prior to embarking on your fishing trip, it’s essential to gather a few necessities. Specifically, you’ll need a fishing pole and bait. To procure these items, simply visit any nearby fishing supply store or vendor and make the necessary purchases.
- Bamboo Fishing Rod – 300 Contract Coins
- Fishing Bait Chest (50) – 20 Contract Coins and has a daily limit of one
There are superior alternatives available at a later time, but there’s no need to fret about it presently. After acquiring these two items, simply click on them within your inventory to equip them (don’t forget to open the chest beforehand). Now you’re all set for fishing!
Equipping the Rod & How to Cast It
Gather all necessary gear, then make your way to any suitable body of water. Once there, find a spot close to its edge. To hold your fishing rod, simply click on the icon located in the upper left corner of your inventory (hotbar).
For individuals who prefer using controllers, it might seem a bit vague how this process operates, but allegedly, you can store the rod in a swift access slot. Furthermore, placing it in your inventory while being close to a water body appears to instantly have your character grasp it, and the control instructions will be clearly shown on the screen for easier understanding.
Casting the Rod + Fishing Minigame
As you find yourself close to a water source, you’ll encounter an opportunity to “Throw Float”. The default shortcut for this action can be found on the ‘F’ key or, if you’re using a controller, it will be located at the bottom of your action buttons, either as ‘X’ or ‘A’.
If you don’t find an opportunity to throw your fishing float, keep moving around until a blue signpost appears near the water. That’s the spot where you should cast your rod when it becomes available, as your float will end up there.
When you throw out your fishing line (or float), that’s when the fun fishing mini-game commences. If you’ve played games like this before, it should feel quite familiar. To get started, you need to be patient and wait for a fish to bite on your bait.
Once I manage to hook a fish, that’s when the exciting part starts! On your screen, you’ll notice two progress bars. The first, a vibrant orange bar, indicates how well you’re doing in reeling in the catch, while the second, a lush green bar, symbolizes your own endurance throughout the struggle.
Focus on the direction in which the fish is swimming. Your objective is to lower the orange gauge by moving the fishing rod either left or right using your control keys. In other words, move the rod in a way that goes against the fish’s swimming direction.
For instance, if the fish is attempting to move towards the left, you should press and hold the “move right” button instead. If it changes direction, simply follow suit. Keep this pattern going until the orange progress bar reaches its end. Additionally, be mindful of your stamina gauge, as letting it drop to zero could allow the fish to escape.
As a gamer, I make sure to avoid holding down the button for too long to conserve my energy bar. It’s always smarter to release the fish for a short while rather than exhausting it completely.
For those controlling with a gamepad, feel free to maneuver the fishing rod by using the left joystick. Simply move it left or right according to the direction the fish is swimming.
