Artem Chigvintsev was apprehended by the Napa County Sheriff’s Office around 10 a.m. on August 29, as confirmed by their Public Information Officer Henry Wofford to TopMob News. Wofford added that the Dancing With the Stars professional did not resist arrest and was subsequently transferred to the Napa County Department of Corrections. Chigvintsev was formally charged with felony domestic violence, and his bail was set at $25,000, according to online records.
The professional dancer posted bail and was released from custody at 2:18 p.m. on Aug.29, Wofford confirmed to TopMob News. A court date has yet to be announced.
As a devoted follower reporting on the matter, I can confirm that Artem Chigvintsev was apprehended in Yountville, California, although the specific location remains undisclosed out of respect for the privacy request made by the alleged victim. In line with this request, law enforcement has chosen not to disclose any details about the victim, such as their name, gender, age, or relationship with Chigvintsev. However, I can share some insights provided by authorities regarding the arrest.
In a recording obtained by TMZ on August 30th, it was heard that Chigvintsev initially phoned 911 asking for medical assistance following an altercation where shoes were supposedly hurled at him. Nevertheless, the 42-year-old later informed the dispatcher that no longer required medical attention.
By August 30th, Chigvintsev remains silent about the arrest or the 911 incident. Our team at TopMob News attempted to get a statement from his representative, but have not received a response as of now.
Chigvintsev was arrested just over three weeks before the start of Dancing With the Stars season 33. Interestingly, despite his past success on the show as a Mirrorball winner and frequent competitor (appearing in 12 seasons), he was not included in this year’s cast according to Page Six and Variety reports. So far, ABC has not responded to our request for comment regarding Chigvintsev’s involvement in this season.
As a devoted fan, I’m sharing my perspective on the situation: A representative for Nikki Garcia—who danced together with Artem Chigvintsev during season 25 of Dancing With the Stars back in 2017—spoke up about his arrest, following his booking and release.
Following the arrest of Chigvintsev, Cheryl Burke, who retired from Dancing With the Stars in 2022 after a 26-season stint on the show, expressed her feelings about the situation. Given their history together, she mentioned on her podcast Sex, Lies and Spray Tans that she was taken aback by his arrest. On September 25, 2024, Chigvintsev expressed deep relief and gratitude in an interview with TopMob News, as the domestic violence charge against him had been dismissed.
He confided, “These past times have been incredibly tough for me,” but “I’m grateful that the truth ultimately triumphed.
The dancer expressed optimism about achieving a shared parenting agreement with Garcia, who has asked for full legal and residential custody of their son Matteo in the divorce petition filed on September 11th.
