Joan soundtrack: All the songs in the ITV drama

As a nostalgic child of the ’80s, I must say that ITV’s Joan has taken me on a thrilling journey down memory lane! The series beautifully captures the essence of that era, from the iconic fashion to the catchy tunes that filled our airwaves. Sophie Turner delivers a riveting performance as the notorious jewel thief, and I found myself rooting for her every step of the way.

Over a series of six installments, ITV’s drama series “Joan” delves into the complex and intriguing life story of Joan Hannington, a well-known jewel thief from 1980s Britain.

Following the character portrayed by Sophie Turner, named Joan, we witness her journey out of a perilous romance, rediscovering love anew, and embarking on a criminal path as a means to establish a better life for her child, Kelly.

Besides an abundance of diamonds, stunning outfits, and nail-biting scenes, the series also features a collection of catchy tunes that were popular during that era.

At a press conference for Joan, the show’s creator and writer, Anna Symon expressed that the writing experience was therapeutic as she delved into the realms of music and fashion.

She expressed: “Indeed, I did delve into ’80s music. To be honest, composing this was a blast because I feel the ’80s provided us with such a broad tonal range. I even rummaged through my old CD collection and my vintage closet.

I particularly liked the selected musical elements that greatly enhanced the piece, and the style was simply remarkable.

According to Director Richard Laxton, selecting the music for the series held significant importance. He further elaborated: “Additionally, there’s a strong anticipation among colleagues when it comes to the music selection, but also, Anna [Symon] contributed some compositions.

Initially, the opening track with The Pretenders wasn’t part of the original plan, but upon recognizing the need for a female vocalist at that point in time, we decided to include ‘Brass In Pocket’. Additionally, her voice carries a soulful depth that resonated with us, leading us to delve deeper into her past and its emotional scars.

It’s something you’re familiar with, ready for sowing the seed. We’ve experimented with numerous methods, and it seems to develop naturally on its own.
