Born in Texas and previously serving as a helicopter pilot in the U.S. Army, Kristofferson started making music while studying as a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University in the 1950s. He eventually gained prominence as a successful singer-songwriter during the late 60s.
He tasted triumph with his individual hit singles like “Why Me”, as well as collaborative pieces with his then-spouse, Rita Coolidge, such as “From the Bottle to the Bottom” and “Lover Please”. The latter two tracks fetched them Grammy awards for the Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group.
