In an interview with Vanity Fair published on September 30, Ariana observed that when a male actor delivers a performance, it’s often praised. She also noted that there are jokes made, but they usually follow compliments like, “Wow, he was so immersed in the role.” Essentially, she suggested this is just part of the acting profession.
In the meantime, Ariana, who faced criticism following a video of her changing her vocal range from lower to higher on Penn Badgley’s podcast that became popular in June, has noticed that opinions about her commitment to her character have shifted to something more positive.
She remarked, “Experiences similar to age-old stories, working in this field as a woman.” She explained, “There’s a distinct difference in treatment, and there’s scrutiny that is often more intense than what others might face.
Previously mentioned, Ariana no longer cares about other people’s opinions, particularly regarding her vocal abilities.
She went on to express her deep sense of pride in the dedication and effort she put into this role, as well as the full commitment of herself – body and soul. What she’s proud of, she explained, is that effort, so she felt compelled to safeguard it.
Later, a video of her conversation with a former Gossip Girl cast member became widely shared online. In response, Ariana clarified the reasons behind altering her singing voice.
