Martin Short Details "Nervous" First Day on Set with Meryl Streep

As a dedicated follower of Hollywood, I’ve had the privilege to witness the careers of some truly extraordinary talents. However, none have left me more awestruck than Meryl Streep. Her latest venture into “Only Murders in the Building” has been nothing short of captivating.

When it comes to Meryl Streep, success becomes her.

Despite her already impressive career, Martin Short – who has been acting alongside her since joining ‘Only Murders in the Building’ in season three – disclosed that Meryl Streep, like any other performer, experiences the same pre-performance jitters.

On the first day of filming with her, I shared with TopMob News during the Love-In Gala on September 27, celebrating The Goldie Hawn Foundation and MindUP’s 20th Anniversary. “I was heading to set,” I said, “and although I’m not a rookie in show business, today I find myself feeling apprehensive. Why? Ah, because I’ll be collaborating with Meryl.

And yet despite being what Martin described as “the greatest actress of them all,” it turns out the three-time Oscar winner, too, had first day jitters.

After completing a duet scene at the piano, the conversation shifted to preparing for the next angle, the 74-year-old explained further. They moved into a holding area, and she remarked, ‘My nerves are now halfway settled.’ (Stay tuned for more with Martin on TopMob News tonight, Sept. 30.)

It was a confession that got the other Hollywood legend thinking. “I went, Oh, okay, that’s, that’s pretty cool,’” Martin explained. “‘Maybe that’s why you’re the greatest actress, because you’ve never taken anything for granted.’”

Although they’ve both persistently dismissed romantic speculation, labeling their bond as friendship, Martin has lately pondered over how their connection has evolved ever since Meryl became part of the show.

In the shared interview with Steve Martin and Selena Gomez, published on August 26th for Extra, I expressed that my friendship with this individual has continually thrived. If one works alongside someone they cherish, the bond tends to flourish over time.

Interestingly enough, a shared affection for Meryl seems to be a common sentiment among the cast members of “Only Murders in the Building.

While Selena referred to Martin and Meryl’s relationship as “so sweet,” Steve added of the Mamma Mia actress, “Meryl is a friend to all of us. If I don’t see her for two years, you get back together and you’re already laughing and talking.”

The same, of course, is true for the core three stars.

Martin playfully remarked to TopMob at the Gala that working with Steve on the show hadn’t significantly changed their relationship – given their decades-long friendship, he added, “We go way back.” However, collaborating with Steve represented a fresh dynamic for the Wizards of Waverly Place star.

He mentioned that he had not known Selena prior to their acquaintance, and furthermore, he declared his profound affection for her, saying, “The entire world knows my love for Selena.
