As a gamer who’s lived through the rise of Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), I can confidently say that Avengers: Endgame was the pièce de résistance of this epic saga. The climactic final fight against Thanos, with Earth’s mightiest heroes rallying together in an iconic wide frame, will forever be etched in my memory as one of the most thrilling moments in cinematic history.
In the ultimate showdown against Thanos in “Avengers: Endgame”, Captain America (Chris Evans), armed with Mjolnir, gathers the Avengers for a fierce battle. This includes original members Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), and newcomers like un-snapped Spider-Man (Tom Holland), Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), and the Guardians of the Galaxy. The scene, where heroes from various portals gather for a grand display, is one of the most memorable in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, this scene could have been different.
ComicBook can exclusively share a first look at Avengers: Endgame concept art and keyframes from Marvel Studios: The Art of Ryan Meinerding, which showcases Meinerding’s art as Marvel Studios’ Head of Visual Development. On sale Oct. 1st from Abrams Books, the new book features more than 500 illustrations and goes behind the scenes of the MCU with unprecedented insight into Meinerding’s creative process.
To quote Wong: “What, you wanted more?”
Apart from the ongoing concept sketches and the keyframe depicting Avengers assembling, here’s what you might find scrolling down: A battle scene featuring The Avengers against Thanos’ Black Order and the Outriders; a revisit of a past encounter, where Smart Hulk (portrayed by Mark Ruffalo), combining brains and brawn, squares off in a second chance fight with Thanos five years after his defeat in Avengers: Infinity War; and an action-packed sequence showing Spider-Man donning the Iron Spider Armor, joining forces with Iron Man, Pepper Potts (played by Gwyneth Paltrow), and War Machine (Don Cheadle) to take on the challenge.
This book, titled “Marvel Studios: The Art of Ryan Meinerding“, showcases the artist’s work from as far back as Iron Man (2008), featuring essential keyframe and concept designs for Thor (2011). It also includes concept designs for Captain America’s suits from Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) and subsequent films, character designs for The Avengers (2012), Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), which were collaboratively created with Charlie Wen. Additionally, it presents suit and gear designs for Daredevil (2015), Avengers: Endgame (2019), Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022), and other projects. The book is authored by Tara Bennett and Paul Terry, who are also co-authors of “The Story of Marvel Studios: The Making of the Marvel Cinematic Universe“. It comes with a foreword penned by Marvel Studios president and Chief Creative Officer Kevin Feige.
