EastEnders’ Patsy Palmer promises “a whole new era of David and Bianca”

As a film enthusiast with a soft spot for soap operas, I must say, the return of Michael French as David Wicks to EastEnders has me buzzing like a bee in a field of clover! Patsy Palmer‘s portrayal of Bianca Jackson has always been one of my favorites, and the prospect of seeing her reconnect with her father is as exciting as a rollercoaster ride at an amusement park.

Patsy Palmer has revealed that her character, Bianca Jackson, will reunite with her coming-back father, David Wicks (portrayed by Michael French), as he prepares for his exciting comeback on the popular show EastEnders in the upcoming week.

Not much detail is available regarding the reunion of David and Bianca, except for their initial meeting that turned out to be quite unpleasant and a private conversation between father and daughter.

Additionally, she plays up the intriguing rapport developing between her character and David, expressing her aspirations for David to step into a heroic role for B. Furthermore, the actress commends Chris Clenshaw, the executive producer of EastEnders, for his exceptional work on the BBC soap opera.

How did you feel to learn Michael French was coming back as David Wicks?

Overjoyed and thankful to learn that Michael would be returning! I’ve always felt that our collaboration was something he desired, too. Together, Michael and I seem to inspire one another – honestly, his presence really helps me shine brighter.

Working with him once more was an absolute joy, a long-awaited opportunity indeed. There’s just something about Michael that resonates deeply; his talent is undeniable, but it’s his spirit that truly captivates me.

What can you tell us about this chapter of David and Bianca’s story?

In this current chapter of David and Bianca’s lives, I find myself deeply intrigued. It’s fascinating that EastEnders is delving into a unique father-daughter dynamic such as this one. This presents an exceptional opportunity to witness two individuals, one in her 40s and the other in his 60s, navigating their complex circumstances together.

Bianca came into the world while David was still relatively young, meaning their ages aren’t significantly different. This close proximity in age allows them to connect more easily today.

In a stark contrast to his old life in Walford, David has found a new path; on the other hand, Bianca seems unable to escape her current circumstances. I can’t help but wish that David could intervene and improve Bianca’s situation. It’s long overdue for her to experience some good fortune.

What do you like best about the Bianca and David dynamic?

In their partnership, there’s a constant interplay of laughter and tears. At one instant, you might find them sharing a hearty laugh or a humorous exchange, which makes for a comical scene between David and Bianca. And the very next moment, they could be shedding tears, making for an intense emotional experience.

“There is so much history there, too, so it’s golden to have that to work with as two actors.”

Have you enjoyed coming back as Bianca for the stints you’ve done this year?

Once more, I’ve enjoyed an absolutely wonderful experience. It’s truly delightful that Bianca is back. For much of the year, I’ve been around, occasionally taking breaks, and it’s been an incredible journey.

The ambiance here is simply stunning, and it’s all thanks to our exceptional leader, Chris Clenshaw. His leadership contributes greatly to the wonderful team spirit we enjoy. I feel incredibly fortunate to have returned and be a part of this special environment again.

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7:30pm on BBC One and from 6am on BBC iPlayer.
