Cartoon Network Hit by Max’s Mighty Axe
It appears that several popular shows, including Bugs Bunny, Gumball, and Steven Universe, have recently departed from Max, leaving fans quite anxious. Some believed the removal was an error by Cartoon Network, but Max’s updated promotional image for its Kid & Family channel suggests otherwise. Now, Fred Flinstone and a Care Bear are featured instead of Bugs Bunny and the other two characters.
Indeed, that’s correct. A Care Bear is indeed the topic at hand. However, I’m curious as to what prompted Max to consider this alteration as crucial?
Fortunately, despite their cancellation, Disney continues to invest in these previously discontinued series. You can find all of the mentioned titles streaming on Hulu. This means that even though Warner Bros. Discovery may not be interested in Cartoon Network, Disney’s higher-ups are still backing its intellectual properties.
Max Has a Bad Reputation With Animation
It’s quite puzzling that Cartoon Network, despite being linked to Max (both belonging to Warner Bros. Discovery), seem disconnected in this recent decision. The absence of collaboration between these two entities is almost comical, leaving fans questioning the direction of Max’s approach towards animated content.
To put it simply, Max has faced criticism in the past regarding its handling of animation. In 2023, a significant number of animated shows from Cartoon Network, such as Over the Garden Wall, Dexter’s Laboratory, and Squidbillies, were removed from the service. This announcement came alongside reports that Warner Bros. Discovery was canceling several projects in general. The cancellation of Batwoman received attention, but it’s worth noting that animated films like Scoob: Holiday Hunt were also put on hold, even though they were almost completed.
It’s evident that Max has a questionable past with animation, yet his history with anime is not tainted in the same way. Notably, recent productions such as “Suicide Squad Isekai ” and “Ninja Kamui ” have garnered impressive viewership on the streaming platform. Intriguingly, Warner Bros. Discovery has expressed a desire to bolster its investments in Japan to offer more anime content. However, when it comes to Cartoon Network, their successes continue to multiply.
