As a fan of superhero movies, I must admit that I am both excited and concerned about David Corenswet’s portrayal of Superman. On one hand, it’s impressive to see an actor commit so fully to the physical transformation required for such a role, but on the other hand, it seems that he wasn’t exactly comfortable with himself during the process.
David Corenswet significantly increased his muscle mass to portray Clark Kent in the upcoming film “Superman,” however, the process wasn’t entirely pleasant for him. In a recent podcast discussion, the actor shared that he felt uneasy about himself when he had gained so much weight, as none of his clothes fit him properly. Over time, his body adjusted to the additional size (reaching approximately 240 pounds and wearing XXL sweatshirts), but he confessed that despite positive feedback from his trainer, he didn’t feel good about himself when he initially transformed his physique.
In a chat with “Manly Things (Sort Of)” podcast (as reported by Variety), Corenswet shared that he wasn’t 238 pounds when filming began, rather, that was his heaviest. He stated, “I didn’t fit into any of my trousers.” Later on, he mentioned that this was “at the pinnacle of my muscular build,” and he subsequently shed weight before shooting started. He began filming at around 228 to 230 pounds, and he admitted that he used this as an opportunity to explore what it felt like to gain as much weight as possible.
Despite this, the suit doesn’t highlight his muscular build as prominently as Henry Cavill did, causing some fans online to question whether Corsenswet had actually gained much muscle mass. However, that’s just how the internet works – people will always find fault with an actor’s superhero physique until they see it in action.
In this new interpretation of the classic tale, David Corenswet takes on the role of Superman, with Rachel Brosnahan portraying Lois Lane. Details about the plot remain scarce, but it’s been hinted that this version of Superman is firmly established as the planet’s protector, and he has a supportive network of friends to rely upon. Joining him in this cast are Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Terence Rosemore as Otis, Mara Gabriela de Fará as Angela Spica / The Engineer, Isabela Merced as Kendra Saunders / Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt / Mr. Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Rex Mason / Metamorpho, Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, and Christopher McDonald as Ron Troupe.
As a gamer, I’m pumped to share that some top-tier talents are joining our team for this project. Henry Braham, known for his work on The Suicide Squad and Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3, is on board as cinematographer. Beth Mickle, who worked her magic on The Suicide Squad and Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3, will be our production designer. Judianna Makovsky, with her impressive resume that includes Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and Avengers: Endgame, is handling costume design. And lastly, David Scott, who’s worked on Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Spider-Man: No Way Home, will be our art director. The casting is being taken care of by John Papsidera, the man behind Yellowstone and Oppenheimer. It’s shaping up to be an incredible journey!
Superman flies into cinemas on July 11th, 2025.
