As someone who has spent countless hours slaying monsters in the Monster Hunter universe, I must admit that this limited edition Rathalos Telecaster guitar is nothing short of breathtaking. However, as someone who’s more comfortable with a controller than a six-string, I can’t help but question whether it’s worth the hefty price tag.
On September 27, 2024, Capcom revealed various projects to mark the 20th anniversary of its enduring Monster Hunter series and the upcoming launch of its next major installment, Monster Hunter Wilds. Among these anniversary initiatives are a VR-focused attraction titled Monster Hunter Bridge, a joint action figure with the Transformers franchise that can transform, and most notably — a Monster Hunter-themed electric guitar in partnership with renowned instrument manufacturer Fender.

The guitar modeled after Monster Hunter, named “Monster Hunter Rathalos Telecaster,” takes inspiration from the series’ emblematic creature – a flying wyvern called Rathalos. This high-end guitar showcases distinctive elements of Rathalos’ iconic design, including wing and fireball patterns on its body.
Regarding functional aspects, the Monster Hunter Rathalos Telecaster will be fitted with SH pickups (Bridge: Single Coil Monster Hunter Rathalos, Neck: Humbucker Monster Hunter Rathalos), which allows it to produce the robust, tonally-rich sounds that Fender guitars are known for. By combining these pickups with distortion pedals, you can significantly improve the guitar’s overall sound quality.
The Monster Hunter Rathalos Telecaster arrives complete with a sturdy black hardcase, and an originality certification bearing the identical serial number etched onto its neck plate.
Furthermore, you should know that the standard edition of the Monster Hunter Rathalos Telecaster is just one version available. There’s also a special, limited edition coming, featuring a blue hardshell case adorned with a leather belt inspired by the in-game Item boxes, a Hunter’s Guild emblem etched on it, and a set of exclusive guitar picks imprinted with iconic symbols from the Monster Hunter series.

The Special Edition Monster Hunter Rathalos Telecaster will feature glow-in-the-dark accents at the 12th fret inlays and side dots, along with an additional Rathalos wing pattern etched on the neck’s backside. This design enhancement enables the guitar’s patterns to illuminate in low light conditions, adding a striking visual element during nighttime play. To enhance its authenticity, the body of the guitar will also bear claw mark imprints, evoking the sensation that this instrument has participated in fierce battles against a Rathalos monster.
The standard edition of the Monster Hunter Rathalos Telecaster is now available for preorders worldwide at Fender stores for $1,999.99. Meanwhile, the special limited edition of the Monster Hunter Rathalos Telecaster will only be available in Japan at Fender Flagship Tokyo and the official Fender online store in Japan for ¥450,000, roughly converting to $3,450.

Previously, Capcom has been famous for undertaking grand ventures when the Monster Hunter series hits significant milestones. These endeavors have ranged from disclosing intriguing behind-the-scenes details about iconic monsters such as Fatalis to organizing orchestras that played revamped tunes from the franchise’s popular songs. Yet, the collaborations for its 20th anniversary are among the most extraordinary I’ve witnessed since Capcom incorporated a Behemoth from Final Fantasy and a Leshen from Witcher into Monster Hunter World as boss battles.
Although I’m definitely purchasing the Transformers X Monster Hunter action figure, fondly referred to as Rathalos Prime, due to my enthusiasm for both series, I have some doubts regarding the Rathalos-themed guitar. The Monster Hunter Rathalos Telecaster seems stylish, but it’s hard to believe many people would spend $2,000 on it unless they’re extraordinarily wealthy and extremely dedicated to Monster Hunter, surpassing my own level of fandom.
Since I don’t play guitars or musical instruments, this item might not be for me. But there’s someone (keeping their identity a secret) who is both an expert guitar player and a dedicated Monster Hunter fan, with a good financial standing. If they choose to buy the Monster Hunter Rathalos Telecaster, it would be fascinating to see them display their musical skills. Meanwhile, we can look forward to our Monster Hunter Wilds adventure together when it releases on February 28, 2025.
In a leap forward, Monster Hunter Wilds – the highly anticipated sequel to one of Capcom’s top-tier Xbox and PC games, Monster Hunter World – is set to debut on February 28, 2025.
