Did Jujutsu Kaisen Do Gojo Dirty With Its Ending?

As a die-hard fan of Jujutsu Kaisen since its inception, I can’t help but feel a pang of disappointment with how the series wrapped up Gojo Satoru’s storyline. The character has been the heart and soul of the manga for many fans, and his untimely demise left us all yearning for more.

Gojo Satoru, the character from Jujutsu Kaisen, initially left fans puzzled about his true nature. At first glance, this white-haired prodigy seemed to tease and troll his students more than not, exuding an air of self-assuredness in his powers. However, as the story progressed, Gojo evolved into a beloved figure within the series, earning the title of the franchise’s unofficial mascot. Nowadays, he is undeniably the most popular character in Jujutsu Kaisen, which has sparked debates among fans regarding whether or not the final chapter of the manga did him an injustice.

Without you perhaps noticing, the final installment of the popular manga Jujutsu Kaisen was published this week, marking the end of a six-year journey for creator Gege Akutami. The story of Yuji reached its conclusion in a touching finale that left many readers anticipating connections to Gojo’s character, but unfortunately, those expectations were not met. Instead, unresolved plot points related to Gojo have ignited a passionate discussion online, and it’s understandable why fans of the Six Eyes user feel frustrated by this turn of events.

Where Did Jujutsu Kaisen Leave Gojo?

If you’ve completed “Jujutsu Kaisen,” you’ll recall how the climactic arc and conclusion tested Gojo to the limit. Following his release from the Prison Realm, Gojo was thrown back into the fray as he honed his skills for combat against Sukuna. The Shinjuku Showdown provided a glimpse of Gojo’s immense power, but ultimately, it was Sukuna who took his life. Fans spent an entire year in anticipation, only to find no resolution regarding Gojo’s fate. This prolonged wait continued even in the epilogue, as “Jujutsu Kaisen” paid minimal attention to Gojo’s demise. In its final installment, a brief flashback of Gojo served as a trigger for online outrage.

Did Jujutsu Kaisen Do Gojo Dirty With Its Ending?

For over a year, the anime series “Jujutsu Kaisen” kept its audience guessing about Gojo’s whereabouts, even hinting at his return, only to reveal it was Yuta in control instead. This persistent teasing started to grate on fans, and as “Jujutsu Kaisen” moved into its epilogue, anticipation for Gojo’s reappearance grew strong. The storyline introduced several surprising character comebacks, and numerous theories speculating about Gojo’s return popped up online. Despite rumors that the sorcerer had been truly deceased, fans expected “Jujutsu Kaisen” to pay tribute to the character in some way, but no such tribute was forthcoming.

After some time had passed, Gojo met a peaceful end, but his demise was left unresolved for more than a year in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen. The series neglected to give a fitting farewell to its teacher by acknowledging his death beyond a few brief letters. It wasn’t until chapter 271 that a flashback featuring Gojo reappeared, causing fans to unite under a critical banner. They felt that Gojo Satoru deserved a more honorable conclusion.

Gojo Satoru Deserved Better

As a devoted fan of Jujutsu Kaisen, I can’t help but feel that Gojo was significantly undercompensated at the series’ conclusion. The tranquil tone of the epilogue didn’t resonate with Gojo or his extraordinary achievements. Initially, Gojo appeared to be immature and irresponsible, but it quickly became apparent that this was merely a facade.

It’s expected that he passed away, but it’s disappointing there was no recognition for someone who battled tirelessly for 21 chapters, lowering Sukuna’s threshold so he could be defeated more easily, regardless of whether he perished in the process. The ending was incredibly unsatisfying, to say the least. #jjk271 (paraphrased)

Previous literature on “Jujutsu Kaisen” has showcased that Gojo is the most industrious character in the story, managing to sleep just a few hours daily. The remaining hours are spent mentoring students, undertaking tasks, and handling administrative duties for his clan. Despite the humor often associated with Gojo, his work ethic is truly remarkable. He undertook his responsibilities so others could be relieved, and while instructing, Gojo never wavered from his objective. His ultimate goal was to establish a world where jujutsu sorcerers were no longer shackled by curses, and by the conclusion of the manga, Gojo played a significant role in achieving that vision.

It would have been pleasant if Gojo had a glimpse into the future, but unfortunately, that’s not something we can decide. While many viewers wish Gojo were still alive in the series, it’s not his survival or demise that fans are most upset about. After his death, Gojo’s significant efforts are hardly acknowledged in the epilogue. Characters like Megumi, Yuji, and Shoko did not hold a proper funeral for Gojo. Despite sacrificing himself to transform society, Gojo’s sacrifice seems to have been disregarded in the end. It is this omission that Jujutsu Kaisen fans find hard to overlook, as they feel there is no justifiable explanation for why the series chose not to honor Gojo until the very end.
