Is Dragon Age: The Veilguard on Xbox Game Pass?
As a long-time fan of the Dragon Age series, I must confess my excitement is at an all-time high for the upcoming release of The Veilguard.
It’s uncertain if Dragon Age: The Veilguard can be played on Xbox Game Pass from day one, but since it will release on EA Play Pro, players on PC will have the chance to experience it through a service similar to Game Pass. When it eventually arrives in the standard version of EA Play, users with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, PC Game Pass, or any tier that includes EA Play, can play it on both Xbox and PC platforms.
The new Dragon Age won’t be on Game Pass …
2024 has been a fantastic year for roleplaying games and their enthusiastic fans, but the potential standout fantasy RPG is yet to be unveiled – Dragon Age: The Veilguard, the latest addition to BioWare’s cherished series, which launches on October 31 this month. Since 2014’s Dragon Age: Inquisition, it’s swiftly climbed up the list of most anticipated game releases this year over the past few months.
Of course, the anticipation for this fourth edition has been building up for a solid decade, so it’s no wonder that RPG enthusiasts are chomping at the bit to get their hands on it. It’s only natural that the buzz surrounding the game has many asking if they’ll be able to dive into it using Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass service. For those who may not be familiar, this widely used program functions like a buffet, granting subscribers access to download and play as many games from its collection as they wish, all for a regular monthly fee.
It seems that Dragon Age: Veilguard may not be joining Game Pass anytime soon, as there’s little evidence suggesting its arrival on the service. Despite no official confirmation from BioWare or publisher Electronic Arts (EA) at this point, it appears highly unlikely that it will be added in the near future, based on past release patterns. However, there is good news – a game similar to it is expected to become available, which I’ll discuss further below.
… But it is coming to EA Play, so keep that in mind
Although it’s highly unlikely that Dragon Age: Veilguard will appear on Xbox Game Pass, it’s worth mentioning that this game will indeed be available through EA Play – a service run by Electronic Arts which shares many similarities with Microsoft’s offering. Similar to Xbox Game Pass, EA Play grants subscribers access to a collection of the publisher’s games for a monthly fee, making it a popular choice among fans who enjoy their diverse range of franchises.
Brand new games like this new Dragon Age installment are only available with the $16.99/month EA Play Pro tier that’s exclusive to Windows PC, meaning at at launch, only PC players using EA’s Windows app will have the option of playing Dragon Age: The Veilguard with a subscription service. However, once the game eventually makes its way to the regular EA Play library — this typically happens 6-12 months post-release — Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass members will get access to it since a standard EA Play membership is included with these Game Pass tiers.
Indirectly, it’s implied that The Veilguard will join Xbox Game Pass and Windows PC at some point for subscribers of the Ultimate or PC-specific plans. However, those with Xbox Game Pass Core or Standard won’t have access to EA Play, meaning they can’t play The Veilguard without either purchasing it separately or subscribing to EA Play individually.
