David Mitchell and Robert Webb comedy getting US adaptation

As a seasoned movie enthusiast with a predilection for British humor and a soft spot for well-crafted remakes, I find the news of the Back remake by HBO intriguing. Having watched the original series on Channel 4, I can attest to the brilliant chemistry between David Mitchell and Robert Webb, and the witty banter that made it a must-watch.

The re-creation of the Channel 4 series “Back,” originally featuring the British comedic pair David Mitchell and Robert Webb, is presently being worked on by HBO.

In a recent interview with Deadline, Kenton Allen, CEO of Big Talk Studios, affirmed their intentions for the series’ development as the production company responsible for its remake.

The series that writer Simon Blackwell is adapting for HBO has not been given the go-ahead by the network yet.

In 2017, the drama series titled “Stephen and Andrew” aired on Channel 4. This show centered around two estranged foster brothers, Stephen Mitchell and Andrew Webb, as they both vie for control of their family’s pub, leading to a fierce power struggle between them.

The show did not come back for a third season on Channel 4; originally, Blackwell had ideas about potential developments had the series been renewed.

In 2021, he expressed his belief about the potential direction for a hypothetical third series: “Based on the specific ending of this series, I have an idea of where the story could continue if there were another installment.

Another popular comedy could potentially be remade for audiences in other countries, such as the United Kingdom. It’s been reported that Big Talk Studios is working on a British adaptation of the classic American sitcom, Cheers.

Allen expressed his great esteem at being given the responsibility for the comedy, stating it would also present a significant challenge to make it successful. He playfully hinted that he might just be a little bit crazy.

Back is available to stream on Channel 4.
