First Metaphor: ReFantazio Review Shows How the Game Stacks Up to Persona

As a hardcore fan of the Persona series, having grown up with the Phantom Thieves and their adventures, I can’t help but be thrilled by the news of Metaphor: ReFantazio receiving such an impressive score from Famitsu. With its perfect 37/40 tying with Persona 5 Royal, it feels like Atlus is continuing to weave the magic that captured our hearts in the Persona universe, albeit under a different name.

Before the official release on October 11th, the first review for the upcoming game “Metaphor: ReFantazio” by Atlus creators has been published. The Japanese magazine Famitsu was the one to share their thoughts on “Metaphor: ReFantazio” this week. Interestingly, Persona enthusiasts will be pleased to know that the new game has earned an almost perfect rating. Remarkably, its score matches that of “Persona 5 Royal”, so if you were a fan of the enhanced and refined version of “Persona 5”, it seems that “Metaphor: ReFantazio” is also worthy of your attention.

In the latest review, Famitsu gave Metaphor: ReFantazio the same score as Persona 5 Reload, which is 37 out of a possible 40. This scoring system works by having four different reviewers individually rate the game on a scale of 1 to 10, and then adding up their scores to find the final score. In this instance, Metaphor: ReFantazio received ratings of 9, 9, 10, and 9 from the reviewers, totaling 37 out of a possible 40 points.

Compared to other games in the Persona series, as rated by Famitsu, the original Persona 5 received a higher score of 39/40. Games like Persona 3: Dancing and Persona 5: Dancing earned scores of 32/40 each, while Persona 5 Tactica scored slightly higher at 33/40. Even though it’s not directly named as a Persona game, the fact that it shares many similarities with the developer, and its review scores are comparable to the highly acclaimed game, Persona 5 Royal, is positive news for fans of the series.

Beyond awarding the game a high rating, the Famitsu review also offered insights about Metaphor: ReFantazio that can give Persona players a sense of how it plays. Notably, the review mentioned that the gameplay bears striking resemblance to the Persona series, with the combat system showing significant parallels too – this may already be noticeable for those who have seen previews or trailers beforehand. The review further noted that certain parts of the game are lengthy, but since it’s anticipated that Metaphor: ReFantazio will take around 80 hours to complete (or possibly up to 100 hours if you want to explore everything thoroughly), there appears to be a wealth of content within.

Usually, Famitsu publishes its game reviews slightly earlier than other platforms. As a result, you might find review scores for the upcoming game “Metaphor: ReFantazio” before its release. This early access will allow for more comparisons with the popular series “Persona”.
